About the fuel economy...

I am seeing everyone having extremely good fuel economy comparing to my 2009 TL awd tech...
I am getting 16L/100km or 14.7 MPG on 95% city. I drive like a granny most of the time already and i just got the car 3 weeks ago (got it at 46000km). However, I am seeing everyone's TL around 13L/100km...?! hows that possible? Am I doing something wrong? or should something be checked?!

Ya, eh-um. I get awful mileage.
It's all about your driving style, terrain and area traffic.

See the Top Gear from 2004 when Jeremy Clarkson drives an Audi A-8 Diesel from London to Edinburgh and back on one tank of fuel.

You can do better if you really try. But we all know the 4G TL wasn't meant to be hypermilled.

EDiT: And I know it is MY DRIVING STYLE because when my wife drove the car on a similar route for over a year straight, her mpg's were more than 15% better than mine.

Take it easy on the throttle and the brake.

Stop and go traffic really kills fuel economy.

Whats your average speed?

On a long road trip I'd get expect high 20's.

The AWD will easily do high 20s on the freeway if you keep your mph at a steady, reasonable level.

I'm getting 19L/100km in 95% city. Stop and go traffic really destroys mileage too haha

full city, i get 15.6L/100km.
FULL hwy, i've gotten it down to below 8L/100km before, but that was on a road trip so it was literally, fill and on the hwy.
Mixed 75% hwy/25% city, I get around 11-13L/100km
Mixed 50/50 i get around 14-15L/100km.

I drive just under 100km a day, 1 tank (before the light goes on) lasts me 1 week usually, or around 500-550km. That's with a few more km's, in addition to my work drive.

Really depends on the amount of stop and go.
Make sure you're filling with premium gas, and check your tire pressure to make sure it's correct. Especially when the temps drop.

Check your air filter, replace if necessary... dirty air filters can destroy good gas mileage.

lets not get out of control here....i have been monitoring my fuel consumption for 34k miles....i do about 50/50 city to highway miles...

maybe 23mpg ish on the highway
maybe 15mpg ish in the city

my average when i refuel is always about 20mpg...i would love to get high 20's on the freeway, i change my own oil, air filter and other maintenence more often then i should, air pressure is always checked weekly, i dont drive like an idiot, cruise control 75mph on the highway, and never have i seen much more then 24mpg on the highway...

All I can tell you is that my running average is sitting at 25.4 after 22K miles. I think your highway speed is what is limiting yours to 24. Most of my highway miles are on urban/suburban interstates, so 65 is about as fast as I normally travel.

that is a pretty good average....i would love to get this...your probably right about my speed, i think i will just for fun, reset my mpg average while on the highway on cruise control set at 65 and see what i get

When you have the trip you want to reset selected just hold down the "reset" button on the steering wheel and it will reset it to zero.

Check your tire pressure, I was getting 14.5L/100km city and realized my tires all needed about 3psi each and I'm back around 12.5L/100km city. For the Americans that's an improvement from 16.22mpg to 18.82mpg.

It depends on what wheels and tires you have. Are you running the 18" sh wheels or 17" base wheels?

There's your answer- that's only 19 mph max. Even a TSX would get sucky gas mileage with a reading like that. You are right about where my 3.2l performs with that type of speed and you have a larger motor.

I read a suggestion in one of Pseudo's posts about using Mobil1 Extended Performance instead of regular synthetic or oil. I usually use Mobil 1 full syn. I took that suggestion and used Extended Performance when I changed my oil a month ago. My Average MPG increased just from this change alone. Before the change my trip B avg (which I only reset at oil changes) read 19.2. After 1 month since the oil change my trip B reads 20.3. I highly suggest this switch to anybody with mpg concerns.

My daily commute is about 20 miles, 70/30 highway. PSI is set at 33-34 at 60 degrees cold car, gets to 37 when car has been running and temps hit 70 degrees.

I started using cruise control on my commute (on a stick shift) and my combined mileage went up a couple MPGs...from mid 18's to mid 20's. that's with an approx. 75% highway commute

I'm in the lower end of MPG's. I've averaged between 21-22 since I bought the car. That's with a 75-80 mph average on the highway and generally shifting around 3k in city driving. Of course I have one or two instances of 'spirited' driving on each tank which keeps it low.

However, as most have said...I didn't buy this car for the fuel economy so I'm happy with my numbers. Still better than some of the V8's I cross shopped.

You could probably use a new more air but that's not your problem- it's your AVERAGE SPEED.

You must be idling for long periods of time or simply going incredibly slow- that's your problem, not your car. You could jack your air to 100lbs PSI, replace your air filter, spark plugs, install a CAI and you will still have bad fuel economy on your commute if you don't alter your route or driving habits in some meaningful way.

Your car is fine.

i have 2200 miles on my '13 SH-AWD and I an averaging in the mid 16 MPG range. However, my 10 mile 20-30 minute commute is surely to blame. When I do finally get a clear lane i normally stomp on it to pass as many of the granny drivers as possible before they all catch up to me at the next light. This certainly makes my already pitiful mileage even worse but it sure make me feel better about it....

My one-way commute to work is a whopping 2 miles, consisting of 2 stop signs, one stop light. Usually I drive my co-workers to lunch every day, which consists of another 2 to 5 miles thru stoplights. My average mpg is around 15, once we get to the weekend and take trips I've seen it as high as 28 with cruise below 80, but normally I roll at 85-90 and the mpg is around 23.

The reality is stop/go traffic kills mpg, and even 4 bangers feel it, my gf's camry only gets around 19 in town, but over 30 on the highway. The shit winter fuel blends are a factor right now as well, once into summer I'll probably see 18 average.

If you really want to see shit mileage drive with the paddles in S mode for a couple days...
