A1 Service

What's a fair price on the A1 service? A local dealer I called quoted $139 for what is essentially an oil change, tire rotation & multipoint inspection....

Just pay for the real service - oil and rotation - skip the BS inspections as they will do it anyway looking for work (even if it is under warranty).

I have done this for 9 years on my MDX with no problems and saved a fortune probably enough to pay for the crappy transmission that just died.

Thanks... I contacted another dealer who quoted something more realistic... $65 (bringing my own oil & filter)

My dealer (Radly Acura) give me free oil changes for 4 years. Only had to pay 25 for tire rotation for A1. I bring my own oil (Royal Purple) and get free oil filter and labor. Cant beat it unless you do it yourself and those days are over for me

I hear ya... It's $49 for the tire rotation at the Acura dealer and $40 at the Honda dealer.... However, there are some warranty claims (which the Honda dealership cannot do) that needs to be taken care of along with this, so I have to make a trip to the Acura dealership and figured I would let them take care of the minor service this time around.

Dang, I take my car to a local independent shop to get a tire rotation for $10. They'll charge me $11 to do an oil change too (I bring my own oil and filter of course)

Thats a good price for oil change labor. Nothing that cheap in DC metro area.

Dang Wooty, that's a good price for tire rotation. Do they balance the tires as well? Now, is it $10 for all 4 tires or per tire? I called up a local PepBoys & they said $12 per tire....But, I'm not complaining too much, as the service advisor gave me a 2011 MDX Navi as a loaner...

Where is this shop that you take your car to? I'm in the Houston area as well...

^^ this. if you bring your own oil and filter, then you pay like $20 for labor. the tire rotation should only run about $25 at most at the dealer.

the A1 price you mentioned...sure that's fair for a dealer to charge if you specifically say you want the "A1 service". and whatever you do change your own filters when the "2" pops up...the dealer price will be well over $100 for them to do it. both filters can be bought for less than $40.

I paid $59 plus tax at Vern Eide Acura in Sioux Falls, SD.

Tire rotation, oil change, multi point inspection, and an excellent car wash with scrubbed wheels. Not to mention they gave my wife an MDX to use for the day.

I've been really impressed with their service.

I just paid $48 for my A1 service yesterday, but it was only the oil/filter change, multipoint inspection and car wash; no tire/wheel rotation.

Not to start a war...but don't they say tire rotations aren't worth it any more? Any benefits you might get are far out weighed by the costs? I'll go search the forum now to make sure I didn't stir the hornets.

^ Sit on it and Rotate.
Sure if you paid someone $20 everytime (5K) it would cost you around $180 for a 50k tire(s). But thats the cost of only 1 tire, not 4.
I rotate at home. All you need is a couple jack stands and a torque wrench.
Free oil changes for life on both cars at our dealer.

lji: The cost of the tire rotation is $10 total for all 4 tires, but they don't do balancing though.

Here is the shop I take my car:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/bellaire-aut...lision-houston

I have taken my car there for the past 6 years for servicing, and haven't experienced any issues ever. Don't worry about the place being too azn lol.

$89 at my dealer. i always get a loaner.

it's pricey for what you get..but you also are paying for the convenience. an Acura dealer that gives you a loaner for the day while they change your oil is very convenient...

if you are counting every penny.. change it yourself or go to a private mechanic and sit and wait.

i'd rather pay for an oil change. less mess, less hassle... time is money. my time is worth FAR more than $89/hour....

2012 MDX A1 service

Just took my 2012 MDX in for its first service, A1. $74.99 for an oil change. Ridiculous! My regular garage charges me $34.99. If it wasn't for 2 recall notices that had to be done, I wouldn't have gone to the dealer. Heck, I get coupons from my Honda dealer for an express oil&filter change for $19.99.
Hmmm, maybe that's just standard for a "Luxury" vehicle. LOL

We have the tires rotated/balanced every 7,000 miles. The oem tires lasted 73,000 miles. The tires we now have have almost 67,000 miles.

you're lucky they didnt' charge $120.

normal oil change is $45 add $30 for tire rotation. voila....$75.

cheapr if you DIY. BUT if you bring your own oil and filter then you pay $20 for labor.

i tink i read somewhere that an oil change for a bimmer is like $200!!

It all depends on dealer so you have to call and check price first. One Acura dealer wanted to charge me $150 for regular oil change and rotation :/
Cost me around $100 for each oil change on the BMW. It takes 6.5 quarts synthetic oil though.

The dealership must be using synthetic oil, whereas corner garages are using regular engine oil.

Synthetic oils cost a lot more than conventional oils.

No that was regular oil. I called different Acura dealers, one charge $62 for the synthetic oil change, $45 for regular oil. That's the one I'm bringing my car for service now.

They don't have a set price for service. You just have to shop around.

And even that's pushing it.

Thanks BearCat! I ended up paying around $73 for whole schibang at the local Acura dealer... But I've done completed the second service now (B16) at the Honda dealer near work... Ran me approx double of the first A1 service. I like to do the work at the dealer while the car is under warranty so that if there are any issues that arise, all records are on hand...

What boggles my mind is the price that these dealers charge for the essential services. I logged into the MyAcura site recently and I saw the spring service special for essentially $155. An oil change ($30), tire rotation ($30) and changing of wiper blade inserts ($2), cabin ($20) and engine air filter ($25) replacement.
