Arrow 7,800 miles, 1 year later and this....

I love my TL, everything about it, but the front seat. I purchased my TL on Nov. 7 of last year and only have 7,800 on the clock since. My short commute to work hasn't put the car on the road a whole lot but the seat shows wear of that of 50k on the odometer.

When buying a luxury car of this price, this shouldn't be happening. I am refering to the paint coming off the seat itself, the creased part doesn't bother me as much.

Anyways I stopped by Acura two weeks ago and they told me to come by today, when the rep was coming. I dropped it off and got a '12 base, which was like stripped, how do you nontech people do it????

Anyways I get a call when the rep is done looking at it. They ordered a new seat cover and will replace it this coming week! Awesome awesome!!

Anyone else with this problem? I am not fat either.

That is one of the problems with tan leather. My truck has tan leather and my black leather belt had discolored my seat like that

I hope Acura can do something for you

The actual leather isn't taupe, they are black, then dyed accordingly

My 2010 TL has 7800 miles on it and has wear not quite to your extent, but still excessive. I visited my Acura dealer about 4 months ago about this. The top service rep. said that Acura will replace the seat cover, but only once. So he suggested I wait until I get closer to the end of my warranty before doing so. He claimed that Acura sent a bulletin stating that leather for car seats is now so common on so many catagories of cars (and trucks) that leather producers had sped up their processes to keep up with the increacing demand. And they are seeing the quality of it suffer as a result. That is the story I got. You can decide for yourself if it sounds believable.

Hate to see that on the 4G with such little mileage/use. I've had my leather seat cover replaced 3 times under warranty on my 3G for this same issue.

^^^ Ditto. I had my driver's seat cover replaced because the material was separating.

That just sucks. I had a 2011 TL (w/ Tech :P) loaner the other day. I think it had the same color interior as you have, but twice the mileage. Had you posted this a few days ago, I would've checked to see if I saw the same thing happening on that one.

This reminds me of my 3G and the dent I have on the window piece where I rest my elbow as I drive. They offered to replace it when I first got the car and noticed the dent forming because of my apparently 7 ton elbow, but I didn't bother because it would just happen again.

More and more, I'm starting to think of getting an Accord or something. lol.

I don't understand that this problem exist since the 3rd generation and they didn't fix it.

Is the butt print issue always exist on the 4th generation ?

Acura could help to minimize that problem by offering a driver's seat that powers back upon exiting the car. Even the 2007 Lexus GS offers that feature. Maybe in it's next iteration

Agreed, but the problem may be wear on ENTERING the car. Does the OP set his seat to go back automatically on Driver 1? Then set your favored position as Driver 2 and just press that button on the door after sitting down.

i had taupe seats in my type s...i would be willing to be that is dirt and clothing dye rubbing off onto your seat...try taking some woolite and water mixture and and a microfibre cloth and see if it cleans up...its getting replaced anyway, so you have nothing to loose....

Wow, Brian, hate to see you going thru this. Looks like it happens prematurely! Let us know the outcome, please. At 8K...there should be NOTHING wrong with that car.

I believe it, it makes sense, that these items are mass produced, no matter what the make is.

I don't do that, it is a good idea, but I shouldn't have to be bothered to do that everytime and then lose the feature of 2 set positions

The picture makes my seat look totally dirty, from the shadows of the garage door being closed. The seat is in fact all uniformly taupe, it is just worn in that spot.

It's no skin off my back if it's going to get taken care of. That's why we have a warranty!!

I'm glad they are going to replace it for you. I have ebony leather, 1500 miles and it already shows a lot of cracks. I'll wait for 3 years then check warranty

This reminds me of when i was shopping for my Tl,i looked at a 2010 tech model that had 10,000 kms on it and the driver seat was a total mess, the salesman said that the leather in the tech model is softer than the non tech model and that it was a common problem,i am happy to hear that they will replace it under warranty.

I have had a few Acuras in the past and never had such problems. Mind you I start conditionning my leather very early in my ownership and was curious if this could help and why I have been lucky so far?

the reason i think its still dirt, is because the dirt carries over to the stiching....seriously, try some woolite and water mixed together, maybe a 5:1 ratio, and use a microfibre cloth and see what happens....it would save you the trouble of having your car worked on, and if it doesnt work, it wont matter since your getting it replaced anyway...

and it has to be woolite, dont mess with anything else...

It is defintely paint removed in that area. I am going to have to change the way i get into the car, because this is going to happen again. The rep from acura wouldn't have approved it for a new cover if it was just dirt vinnier. I wish it was!

This seems to be an issue on almost every car I've seen with light colored leather. A majority of the wear comes from the driver sliding into the seat which will cause wear on both the horizontal and vertical side bolster.

If you will slide around the bolster instead of across it this does not happen. It is all in how you get into the car.

^^^imagine an acura rep denying coverage claiming you don't get into your car correctly. LOL.
I mean, I agree...you have to do what you have to do, just sounds ridiculous.

There are (at least) two more automated entry assists that might help, in addition to the seat longitudal movement: power steering wheel tilt and power seat side bolster. The former is a fairly common feature, and it suprises me that it is missing from the TL.

A second observation is that if corners must be cut on the leather because of high demand, the driver's seat is the one that should not suffer.
