4G Roof Spoiler question

For those that bought the roof spoiler on ebay for their 4G TLs, have you had your car go through the automated car wash? I just ordered mine and was wondering if the spoiler would fall off since nothing is bolted on.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it would fall off, but when I had one on my Maxima the end started to come loose after while. I don't think they use the best tape. Before I even installed it I cleaned the window extremely well and used a primer they sent but it still came loose.

I hand wash my cars so I would not know for sure, however agreed with Sgt128. If you don't prep right and don't use install right it can come off or get loose. I added in the middle another line of 3m heavy duty tape.

^

Prep, prep, prep. I didn't go with the third row of tape, but I have washed and detailed my twice since the install and it feels quite snug and secure.

clean the windshield area with detailing spray. wipe with 50/50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water. put silicone adhesive on the roof spoiler, spread the silicone evenly. take tape off the 3m and put it on. make sure you have two people doing it. and make sure you are centered. apply even pressure and tape down. ensure 24 hr dry time and make it sit in the sun. your good from there.

If you want it to stick real good,

1) take off the cheap tape it comes with
2) buy some 3m double sided molding tape 3/4 in
3) wipe down the area of the old tape with goo gone/3m adhesive remover etc
4) apply 2 strips of 3m molding tape straight across the spoiler parallel each other and touching(not overlapping)
5) wipe down the area of the back windshield where you're about to put the spoiler on(with windex/glass cleaner etc)
6) install the spoiler by aligning one side of the spoiler first and work your way to the other side. Its better to have a helping hand.
7) once the spoiler lined up how you want it press down on the spoiler. give it a good press along the spoiler to make sure the tape is in contact with the windshield

and now you're done. I would suggest not washing your car for a day or 2 and let the car sit out in the sun. I would press the spoiler down again after sitting in the sun just to be sure

I say use 3/4" 3m because 2 parallel strips of it basically covers whole bottom of the spoiler except for the corners of the spoilers. VS if you use a thinner tape you have to use more tape for the same amount of tape to glass contact. Hope this helps

Sound good, thanks for all the help. I use a automated car wash since I live in a big condo complex and we do not have a car wash area. Also, when it snows , I run it through the car wash to get salt and all the nasty stuff off the car.

I'll post pics in about a month or so. I just ordered wheels as well and those should be coming in 4-6 weeks. GFG G2s...Can't wait.

Dank, I've got a roof spoiler and have never had a problem. I used two layers of 3M double sided tape-no worries!

Steven, good to know, I'll follow you're advice.

This is the seller's link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290699880237
My spoiler is still en route, but I've seen multiple other members purchase from this seller. So far so good, I'll let you know once my install happens.

I installed my roof spoiler with the supplied cleaner/sealer and used the original tape. Aint no way that thing is ever coming off. as others have said, prep the window properly and there will be no fallin off issue.

I added some 3M trim tape along what was already on there. Did not use the silicone that came with it as that is more to keep water out and the car is in the garage.
Also cleaned the glass really well and used alcohol tabs to clean the area. Then yes had an extra set of hands to install it.
I don't take my car through the car wash. I hand was it at the car wash with the wand. Or if you insist you could go through a brushless car wash.

I bought mine off of ebay, but that was serveral years ago. There were many vendors for the spoiler then. I was very suprised by the quality.

I take mine through the automated car wash quite often. It is not the swirly plastic eggbeater kind, but rather a series of long spongy strips that slap at the car. My spoiler is still extremely snug with no sign of coming off, and I even used nothing more than the supposed sub-par adhesive tape and silicone that came with the spoiler.

Just rec'd it in the mail yesterday, I'll slap it on this weekend. Also, turns out the GFG wheels are no longer being produced, I'm going w TSW Nurburgrings 20x9 with +35 offset on 245/35/20 Continental Extreme Contact. Based on everything that I've read on this forum, I shouldn't have any rubbing issues, hope they're right!!
