3.5 Advance vs base SH-AWD

Hey all,

I need and welcome any advice you would be kind enough to provide. I'm torn between a 3.5 Advance package and a base SH-AWD. Both are priced similarly with the AWD car having about 10k miles more, not enough to be a dealbreaker. Struggling with whether to prioritize the AWD or the tech features. I would view the AWD as a "nice to have" feature from a bad weather standpoint, but not necessarily imperative. Feel the same about the nav and blind spot. I've heard rave reviews about the ELS audio and that the SH-AWD is like a different car altogether. Truly I'm torn and having both is not in the cards $$. I'd value any advice or help. Thanks!

Tough choice. If you live where it snows like 30-40 cm, SH-AWD system is amazing. If you live in CA and nice weather go with tech pack.

ELS system is great.

Again, it depends what you need....good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I'm in western PA, so we typically get about 30-40 inches per year. Nothing a set of winter tires and working from home won't get me through. I've priced the SH-AWD with tech and unfortunately, it's just not in the cards.

You are going to regret buying the base SH-AWD vs the advance FWD. Better gas mileage, better resale, less problems (prop shaft, oil burning, etc).

Get tech FWD. Put winters on 17's and get a nice set of 18/19s for summer. IMHO, getting tech has the camera, navigation, keyless entry, ELS audio. You will enjoy you car more.

Parking this car without a camera would be a pain. Trust me.

I forgot about truck lid spoiler. You may be inclined to complete the look with an aero kit.

Tough choice but I would go with the FWD Advance for the reasons listed above.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm leaning the same way. The backup cam and ELS would be things I would use every time I drive. Not sure the type of driving I do would allow the full benefit of the SH-AWD either...

Another reason for the Advance: IME, AWD variants of sedans, such as the TL, TLX, 5 series, Genesis, etc have had a somewhat significant insurance premium over their RWD/FWD counterparts. For me, the FWD model is ~$600 cheaper/year in insurance premium. This has been true when I was getting quotes and deciding what car to purchase.

I'm in my lower 20s in Northern VA and this has held true with every insurance company I got a quote from. My parents are in their upper 50s and in CT are in similar situations -- ~$400/yr higher for them.

Hello! I wanted to thank everyone again for all the advice. Just picked up my CPO 3.5 Advance in BRP II this week and absolutely love it. What a car, and am enjoying using the tech and all the functionality. I know I made the right call. Thanks again!
