2014 TL SH-AWD Advance

What exactly do you get over and above a 2012-14 SHAWD with TECH with an ADVANCE model?. I know you get 19 inch wheels, blind spot monitoring, heating & cooled seats, etc. I have been looking at a 2014 TL shawd, advance with 18 K mi. It's white with a white/gray interior, sharp. The dealer started out at $36,300 and it's now listed at $35,899. I offered $34 k and basically told the sales rep that was it, no discussion, this was on Jan 30 ---- end of the month. Sales manager called me and said they could save me " a few hundred dollars ", he said they pay a lot for used vehicles. I thanked him and hung up. I don't know the history of the auto, perhaps it was a loaner, with 18 k mi in a year that could spell trouble. My 08 TL type S is running great with 108 K on it. I go through this agonizing game every couple of months, should I ? Oh just keep what you have ! It sucks, but that's human nature. I have never driven an SHAWD model, but from reading this forum, they sound great. I think if I could get this car for $35, 300 I would take the plunge. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Remember, I'm old, so go easy on me. Semper Fi, Bill C.

Those upgrades pretty much sum it up. If its automatic, you probably won't lose anything by waiting. Manuals are obviously a commodity. I've seen plenty of '12s as you described asking below 30k already. I have an '06 with 133k that I've owned for the last 6+ years, and I'm waiting patiently for a clean '12 Advance FWD for under 20k. Hang in there and don't rush it (easier said than done, I know), the '14s are depreciating a lot more than your Type S will in the same timeframe.

2014 TL Advanced

Love to hear someone with 130 K mi going strong. Great advice, just have to get my mind right. This is especially no time to buy a car up here with the weather, thanks all for the replies. Bill C.

Well the awd is perfect in any weather. Key is to wait for the right deal. You guys should easily be able to get 200k out of your TL's. Are you selling the type s or keeping it?

I would go test drive it before buying still. Just so you have an idea of what you're buying. I'm sure you'll be happy though.

Bill C. Even 34k would be a rip off. Check this one out.

Same car. Certified. Tell your dealer to match this price or you walk. Or just buy this car and have it shipped to you.

You can get a 2012 for 28K-30K but a 2014 is practically brand new car for 35K I think it's pretty good.

You have to make sure it's a clean car, leather is not damaged and no dents and scratches on the body.

Good luck!

I've driven the Advance and the regular Tech AWD. Im not sure nicer rims and cooled seats are worth 3-5000.00 more. Not to me. I would just get the TECH AWD, its basically the same car and you can save yourself a ton of money and have way more choices to buy.
See here.

Bill, I would go test drive the SHAWD first before making deals. The ride might be too stiff/sporty. Not trying to say that you can't handle it but I've seen you mention that you're "old" on more than one occasion.

2014 TL Advanced

Thank you for all the replies. I'm not sure what I'm doing right now. If I do buy a new TL, I would prefer trading the TLS rather than the hassle of selling it to someone. I too wonder if the advance model is worth the extra money. Holding tight as of now, we'll see what happens in the next month or so. Bill C.

I dont think that car is worth the money being asked for... surely the advance does have premiums from the factory, but do you want those premiums and how much are you willing to pay for them?

As a frame of reference, I just bought (2 weeks ago) a cpo shawd auto tech package from california with spotless carfax for well under 27k... I could not imagine wanting advanced its my on my car.

In white/gray btw.

Not really apples to apples. The car you bought was a '12 with 8-10k more miles.

Bill, I have driven both; I don't think the advance is worth the additional money at all. I'm old as well I like the SH-AWD system better than any other AWD system. Audie's, BMW's etc included. I tried them all. Regarding a stiff ride, the car feels more sporty not really hard on your back or tiring after an extended travel. Drive one, I think you are going to love it. I would purchase a 4G SH-AWD over the TLX SH-AWD anytime over.

I bought a '14 TL SH-AWD Advance about 6 months ago. I specifically wanted the Advance for the 19" wheels. Love the cooled seats. Blind spot monitors....eh, I could live with or without them. With what I was shopping for, I ended up paying a $1300 premium for the Advance over what I could find a Tech for. IMO, having the 19" wheels was worth the premium I paid. That said, I did save about $8000 off sticker.

Yes for 1300 its a no brainer for the wheels alone. But not for 5-6 grand.

I agree. $35,000 for a used 2014 Advance SH-AWD is too much. I paid $39K for mine 7 months ago, NEW....and that was before the TLX was in full swing. I would think a used one with the miles he's quoting now should fetch around $33,000.

If you really like the car, keep an eye on it, the longer it sits the more willing they will be to deal. At their current price, it's not going to sell quick. Personally with nearly 20k miles and non-certified I wouldn't pay more than $33k for a 2014 model ($32k would be more ideal).

Some other options:
2012 with 23k miles for $29k
'14 with 3,800 miles for $35,400
'13 With 19,500 miles for $31,555
Certified '14 with 8,200 miles for $35,996
Certified '14 with 13,300 miles for $34,671

64 Advance models with under 30,000 miles.
This should give you a good idea of prices available:

Good luck!
