2013 tl
2013 tl
Anyone have any links or info on whats new for the 2013. Also when will it come out? Im interested in picking up a 2012 next month but im thinking maybe just wait for 2013's if the changes are worth it. Obviously there wont be big changes but maybe small ones such as the electronics and what not. I just havent been able to find anything whatsoever and its only a few months away
^^^ I'd be very surprised if anything new will be added for 2013. The MMC brought on some significant update for the 2012 MY so now, they'll just let the 2013 cruise to the death of the 4th generation. The 2014 model will be the FMC for the TL (called the TLX) and that will likely come out in the fall of 2013 as a 2014 model. I have my eyes set on that and when the spring of 2014 rolls around, I'll likely snatch up up (I don't buy cars in the fall). It will be interesting to see what the 2014 will ring to the table. If you are really set on buy the 2012, go ahead as the 2013 won't bring anything new. If you can wait a year and some, the new model will come out.
As you know, most Acura models are always controversial at first and with a few exceptions, people seem to take a while to warm up to their design language, this generation of the TL being one of them. The 2012 is a great car (with a few known problems like rattling sunroof and tapping rear shelf) but overall, its a solid and reliable car. Don't wait for the 2013 if you like the 2012 as it will be very similar so start enjoying now

Thanks for the input. One thing about the new generation. I really dont think we will be seeing one next year. at the auto show acura reps were telling people after the RLX and NSX come out is when they will have a concept for a new TL/TLX

Good timing for me. My current lease expires in June 2014. The 2014 TL/TLX will have been on the market 6 to 9 months by then. However, there are a lot of choices out there and I'm not 100% committed to Honda/Acura.
The new Accord model has preceded the new TL by one year for the past three cycles. If this keeps up, look for the new Accord and then wait until the next year for the TL, TLX, or whatever it will be called, if Acura decides to develop a 5G.
Just came back from a marketing research study. All of the participants either had a TL or a TSX.
Anyways, one of the cars we looked at was either the RLX concept car you see on the acura website or possibly the next gen TL.
I can't really say much but all I can say is I'm glad I didn't wait and got my 2012 TL now.

And please closely at the RLX concept again to confirm which you actually saw
The marketing group called me up if I wanted to participate. My guess is Acura sold my info cause they knew I had just bought the car. Pretty much all of the participants had recently bought their cars. I got mine back in November.
If Acura is heading towards the direction I think they are heading (hybrid, ILX/RLX sytling), we can pretty much shut down this thread.
I feel like they are targeting the older crowd that will not be modding a car.
Not really too thrilled with what's in store.

If Acura is really serious about attracting the younger crowds, it shouldn't ignore the 2-door coupe market.
An ILX coupe/convertible and a TSX coupe/convertible will sure capture a whole lot more of the younger buyers.

BMW has no problem attracting customers of all ages...why not Acura? Even Lexus gets this and is adding F / F-Sport models left and right.
Back to the car they showed you...was it the RLX concept or something entirely different?

Looking at the pictures on acura.com, the car looked like the RLX. There are slight differences though. The headlights for sure are the same but the grill and hood looked different. The grill looked more like a cross between the 2012 TL and a 3rd gen TL.
Not room for ILX + TLX + TSX +RLX. ILX is a definite. Two of the other three stay - one will go. Maybe the RLX is the new TL and flagship, and the TSX is the old TL and mid-lvel.
There was a follow-on driving study around the time the 2nd-Gen TL-S was introduced. Acura/Honda was trying to determine what owners would be looking for in the next-gen in terms of horse-power, handling, ride quality, etc. They presented a bunch of scenarios mixing, price, features, horsepower, etc. I recall that the sweet-spot in terms of that mix ended up at 280hp--again, pretty accurate to what TL ended up.
We bought our 2012 TL in October and a couple of months ago we got a call to participate in an upcoming marketing/focus group being conducted by Acura. I qualified but, sadly, we were going to be away on vacation during that time. It would have been interesting.
^^ I agree. I was contacted shortly after purchasing my TL in 2010. A wide range of topics were addressed, mainly having to do with desireable features, focusing quite a bit on tech options. It was clear from the questions that Acura was considering a web-based sound/messaging/nav system that would rely heavily on a smart phone running through the car's system.
Looks like some of those features are starting to appear on the ILX/RDX and are likely to get further incorporated into the new RLX when it debuts.

The current model lineup for the Acura sedans is all fucked up. There's too much overlapping/similarities between the sedans, and not enough variety between model selections; and as a result, forcing them to compete with one another instead of helping Acura to capture more market share.
There is always plenty of room to capture both the younger and older crowds if the available model mix is done right, just like BMW and MB.
The smaller, entry-level pocket rockets and the small flashy coupes can cater to the youngest crowds. The mid-range, high-power, luxury performance sedans/coupes/supercar can cater to the in-between crowds who is making tons of $$$. The huge, top-line touring sedans can cater to the oldest crowds.
This should capture all ages of premium sedan buyers.
