2013-2014 TL SHAWD + Manual

How rare are they? What to look out for if purchasing one? Anyone here selling?

I live the 2013/14 due to the updated cosmetics.

Thanks.

The excess oil consumption, how common is this? Is there a fix for it?

Thanks.

Also are there any issues with AWD and lowering on springs/shocks?

There seems to be no real pattern, except that nearly all of the reports I have seen of oil consumption relate to the 3.7 motor in the SH-AWD versions. Even among those owners, some report no excess consumption, some report a little, and a few report a lot, i.e., in excess of one quart/1,000 miles. Acura has been replacing some blocks/pistons/rings in the latter cases, and there was word a few weeks back that warranties on the 3.7 motors would be extended to 8 years, but so far no official word has been released, as far as I've seen.

Sorry for so many questions, any benefits of the 2009-2011 model over the 2012-2014, other than looks (subjective)?

My 2013 6MT is burning about 2-3 quarts between oil changes and I'm at about 58k miles, it used to burn about 1.5 quarts between oil changes. Ridiculous, this will probably be my last Honda/Acura.

As stated above, the general consensus on oil consumption is: it's an inconvenience, IF yours even burns oil. I remember the old days where you'd virtually add a quart before you'd even drive 1000 miles.... only the very worst of the 3.7's is this bad. I would not keep this possibility from buying a 3.7 again. As for me, I burn about 1/4 quart per 1000 miles. I usually top off twice between oil changes at about ~1/2 - 3/4 quarts a pop.

Now, are they available? Yep... be ready to check one out and have your offer ready - when they pop up, they usually go quick.

A few other odds and ends, most of which are summarized here:

I'm fairly young(31) and was taught by my single mother to check oil level often, in case of oil consumption.

i mean, airplane pilots have a take off check list, why shouldnt we have one too?

You ought to be eligible for warranty repairs/replacement at that prodigious rate. How long (in miles) do you go between oil changes?

Does not give me a very good feeling if I am looking to buy an used one.

My Hondas/Acuras have always been very reliable ....

It's extremely reliable. Some people are simply not used to ever checking/adding oil... I'd absolutely buy another again. There's probably a 70% chance your J37 would not burn oil, a 29% chance that it would need a quart or two between changes, and a 1% chance it's a real guzzler. This doesn't need to be a dealbreaker...

^^ Completely agree. I am at the low end of the 29%. The car has been rock reliable and a joy to drive. I'd buy another in a second if they made a 2018 version. (Since they don't -- and likely won't -- I'll probably end up owning my TL for close to the 18 years I owned my absolutely trouble-free 2G Legend coupe!)
