2012 TL SH-AWD Trouble programming garage door opener
TL newbie here...just got the car...love it. Only issue so far is we are unable to program the garage door opener. Followed the instructions but no go. Then cleared it by simultaneously pushing top and bottom buttons and tried again with no success. Have tried many times.
Our garage door opener is an 2001 Sears model with a rolling code (has a learn button).
Anybody else ran into this or have a solution??
Thanks, looking forward to being a long time member of the TL family.

i tried the garage remote control and that worked. I tried the learn button on the opener itself first and that costed me 2 days of headache and wouldn't work. i had to run out to homedepot to buy a spare remote control for my unit to make this work. hope this will help.

you may have to set the actual garage door opener to accept a new remote. This is what I had to do on mine. I did a google search on my specific garage door opener and found how to do it. (took me about an hour to figure it out).

After the car was programmed, I hit the "learn" button on the garage door opener and programmed the Homelink to it (as if the Homelink was a new remote you just bought from Lowes). I had to do it twice to make sure it was programmed. I believe I had to do it twice for the Camry and the TL. Make sure you are not parked in the way of the garage door .
I also programmed the Homelink for the gates at the entrances to my neigborhood.

Success!!!
What worked for me was to:
1) Clear the door opener's memory.
2) Push the opener's learn button
3) Then press the car's opener button (Homelink button).
Then of course had to reprogram the remote keypad, the openers and our truck but all worked afterward. Had earlier cleared the memory but reset the remote keypad first, and then tired to set the car's opener...obviously that didn't work.
CerberusKy gave me the idea...so he wins a ride in the car and gets a ceremonial opener button push...anytime in Columbus, IN Aw heck, you all win the same
Thanks guys, glad to be a part of this forum.

Had problems programming my folks' Liftmaster Security + garage door as well. New TL w/ Tech. No problems programming my apartment's garage door. Only visit my parents twice a year due to distance, will have to go back and see if we do have to mess with the actual garage door opener in order to get it to work (my dad said he also couldn't get his Chevy Avalanche's opener to work with it as well).

***Don't forget...If you leave the car OUT of the garage with the window down, everyone has access to your home (especially if you are like me and never lock the door between the garage and house).
