2012 TL SH-AWD: 5W-20 but Dealer may have put in 0W-20?
Hi,
Just got back from my first service (A1) on my TL with only 6000 or so miles on it after a year. A1 popped up at 15% Oil Quality minder, no issues there.
My ambiguity now is that the cap on the TL specifies 5W-20; the dealer printout indicated 0W20. Going back in, I was assured that it was a computer issue in their system and that the service tech confirmed he had put in 5W-20.
Any thoughts? Do I need to worry? Does it really matter? What happens with a slightly thinner grade at startup?

No need to worry.
My dealership has always been using 0w20 full synthetic Honda engine oil in all 2012+ TL's that are being serviced there.

Although the oils may be the same, for some reason Acura does not recommend 0w-20 in the 3.7 engine.

This is the TL SH-AWD with the 3.7 engine; it is marked as needing 5W-20.
Called Acura Customer Relations, they checked it out and said it wasn't a problem. But I will remember to specify 5W-20 for all future changes, just because that's the recommendation.
Thanks for your help!

I believe it was '11 or '12 when Honda started changing cylinder liners to use some molybdenum, reducing friction and also switched to 0w.

Back in early 2012 when I had my 1st oil change done, I asked the oil weight question, and my dealership said it received a service bulletin from Honda saying that all 2012 TL's (FWD/AWD/3.5L/3.7L) were recommended to use 0w20 full synthetic oil.
This is for the Canadian dealerships. Don't know if it also applies to the US TL's ?
