2010 TL 6MT Impressions

Hopefully this helps to anyone considering purchasing a 6MT!
After letting my new TL break in for 2,000 miles over the first 6 weeks, I've begun to push her a little harder on occasion, going to 4k rpm in the first few gears. Even stopping well short of what the car is capable of, and with the VTEC not even activated yet, the engine seems to love being pushed, coming to life with a pleasant growl. This is an all-around fantastic car, with only a couple of flaws that annoy me. Sometime after 1,200 miles a rattling sound developed. It only does it on occasion, but no idea where it is coming from or what it is. Also, when turning on the fan for the climate control, sometimes the recirculate button turns on even though I always leave it in fresh air mode. Its not that difficult to press the button to turn it off, but annoying still, since the car remembers how all of the other settings are left. These are pretty minor complaints and overall this car has everything I was looking for; power, luxury, roomy, comfortable, awd, excellent stereo and tech, beautiful interior. Sometimes driving it at night makes you feel like your behind the controls of the space shuttle lol

The car will automatically go to "recirculate" when it's over a certain temp. inside because of ambient heat outside. This allows the A/C to function far more effectively as it tries to cool down the extreme interior temps. initially.

Once it gets the cabin temp. to a reasonable level it goes back (automaticaLLY) to fresh air.

The climate control system in this car is very good and best simply left set to "auto."

Oh, I had no idea lol, thanks i'll give it a try!
Once i hit 3k miles, i would think that the motor would be sufficiently broken in and there shouldnt be a problem with driving it harder, right? I can't see too many opportunities to take it past 5k rpm though, you run out of room too quick lol!

Well the manual says that breakin is only 600 or 800 miles (I can't remember which). I'd say you're more than ready to push it to the redline. My personal favorite is getting on the highway, and pushing it to the max...f-ing amazing.

The synchros in that tranny are built for post-vtec throws; short shifting it too much isn't so good for them. While it's good to let things settle in a bit - you're more than good for having fun now. I too, with an 09 SH-AWD, might opt for the 11/12 6 speed or future Type S model if they can find another 40 ponies (I'm very doubtful this will be the case)>

If it already has a rattle at 1,200 miles I suggest you take it in and have Acura fix it. They can do that and it'd be under warranty I'm 99% sure.

I think one of the rattles is the sunroof, and there is a TSB to fix that already.

maybe

Yeah, I was thinking of bringing it to the dealership to have them check it out, but I have bigger issues right now unfortunately, as my marriage is up in the air, and I might have to get rid of the car much sooner than I wanted. Let's hope for the best!
