2009 TL vs Lincoln MKZ
I test drove the new Lincoln MKZ and I must say, its a impressive car. I wanted to test drive the V6, but only a 4 banger with turbo was availiable. If I was not told, I would have never known I was driven a 4 banger. The motor was silky smooth and seemingly powerful. The ride was competent, but not quite as planted as my Tl. Audio system in the MKZ was good, but it was not the top THX system. Needless to say, it was not as good as the ELS. The interior was nicer to my eyes, however the material used in the TL is much better. I love the push button transmission, and he MKZ had ever tech feature you could think of and then some. Would I buy the MKZ? I don't know, I have not bought an american car since 1972. I love reliablity and American cars have not proven themselves to me yet. I will say, If Acura does not step up to the plate with the new TL I will consider this car. From what I saw and drove, Acura has a long rode to roe. The interior in the Lincoln was so nice, it made my Acura look old and dated once I got back in it.

I went to check out a 13 MKZ last weekend and while the outside was impressive, the inside was a big let down. The materials screamed Fusion, very cheap feeling all around inside. Such a shame because the outside is stunning. The sweeping console while looking nice, the angle of the touch screen mean reflections and seeing every finger print. Great attempt by Lincoln, but for a car that can top $50K it needs better materials inside, the Acura materials feel substantially better grade.

^^ Agree completely. Car looks great on the outside. (And Lincoln had a fabulous display area at out car show - better than anyone else's). But once I sat in the MKZ, the materials looked largely like they came from the Fusion parts bin. I'm also a little turned off by Ford's continued use of the very high center console in their cars. It gives me claustrophobia!
Having sat in a lot of cars at the recent show, the only ones that really stood out with their interiors (compared to our very fine TLs) were the new Lexus models (especially GS), the new RL - it had very nice leather and fit/finish -- and a couple of the Caddys.

Last time I took the Focus in for service, I sat in a loaded MKZ. The inside looked very nice to me. I agree the interior feels a bit claustrophobic. When I test drove the Taurus, neither of us liked it. (Of course the MKZ is decked out differently)
