15K service?

Search before you create another thread
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ht=15k+service
(Here is a good tip. Don't use the big box in the middle of the screen. Find the Thread/list you want, then use the "search this thread" drop down menu on the right hand side.)

I had my B16 service done at 13K.
The 15K service that I'm referring to is different. It contains additional inspections and services.
Some of it seems shifty to me. I'm looking at a price sheet and it contains things like "Disinfect HVAC system" and "perform fuel saver service".

Oh, I see. Intake clean for $150 is another shady item to look out for.
It is just a way for the dealer to make some extra cash. In fact you can easily change the cabin air filter youself. Just stick to what the MID and owners/service manual tell you.

$200 to "remove carbon buildup" and they take a picture of the intake system with some oil/grease on it as "proof." WTH? I'm aware some engines are prone to carbon buildup, but they tend to be in older Audi engines or turbo engines. Toyota (and Honda) engines are pretty much bullet proof... And $50 to inspect the battery and hoses? One can "insect" the battery by looking on top of the battery and checking the color of the 'eye.' I guess some people fall for those traps.
IMHO, the 15k service in the 4G TL is pretty easy to do. Unless it's a warranty item, I would suggest finding a trusty auto shop or mechanic to do the work. The 4G TL is pretty easy and cost effective to work on, compared to say Porsche...

My opinion is I do not care what the dealer says a service includes, I ask them to only somewhat then manual says and honestly for the TL I just do oil and differential changes at dealer, I did filters myself. And if you look at the manual you will see the most f the items are inspect this inspect that, etc. I can't pop the hood and look at the belts and such.

I recently saw a side by side comp that showed how much extra you would spend if you followed the dealer recommended items. It added up to another $2,000 over the life of the car. I'll post it, if I can find it.

at 15k.. you should be doing anything but rotating tires, change oil, and change all your filters.. cabin, intake, and oil.. oh and also rotate tires.

Wen I get a car I go to discount tires and for about $125 I get lifetime rotate and balance as well as road hazard insurance and I bring them the car every 6k miles to rotate and balance and they treat my wheels far better than the dealer. Then I do my own air and cabin filters, so I let dealer do oil changes at around $45 and rear diff change used to be about $90.

I did the 15K service on my TL in April, I think. The whole thing cost me about 80 bucks. So, unless the dealer is quoting you less than 150 bucks, I will say, do it yourself. Here is the breakdown of what I bought and how much it cost me.
Engine oil - 30 dollars (5 qts, Mobil 1 EP)
Oil Filter - 8 dollars (K&N EP)
Differential Oil - 35 dollars (3 qts)
Pump for Differential Oil - 7 dollars
Wheel Rotation - 0 dollars
Tire Pressure Check - 0 dollars
Engine Air Filter Check - 0 dollars
Cabin Air Filter Check - 0 dollars
I have seen some people talk about paying 75 dollars for differential oil change and at the same time, I have seen people getting a quote of up to 350 dollars.

So it varies by the dealer. If you are a DYI kind of a person, I think its a good workout and brings you peace of mind too. But thats just my thought.
