09-14 Rear Spoiler with Camera Idea (Favor to Ask!)
I have a 2009 Acura TL Base (No Backup Camera). I want to install a backup camera but I don’t want the license plate bracket style camera as I feel it may sit a little low for my liking on the 4th Gen.
My favor to ask to the people who currently have the factory OEM Spoiler with the Camera built in can someone PLEASE measure the opening where the lense sits so I can look into backup cameras that can fit that round opening and then I can figure out how to mount it in the spoiler on the inside. My idea is to buy a OEM Spoiler with the camera built in but I would remove the OEM camera as I obviously can’t use that with the Base Non-Tech model of the TL and in its place I would install one of those universal back up cameras and tie it into a possible rear view mirror with a screen or a possible new head unit. I would try to print a 3D bracket to hold the universal back up camera in place in the spoiler with the OEM mounting points. I feel that OEM backup camera view would be the best. Thanks in advance! |
I tried to order a replacement OEM spoiler and after 8-months gave up since it still hadn't been fulfilled. You may want to get a used one if possible, and get it paint matched to your car. You might want to end up taking the whole trunk lid from a tech/advance model to avoid drilling holes in yours if that makes sense.

Installing a backup camera in the OEM spoiler is a clever way to keep the factory look while upgrading functionality. Since you're looking to replace the OEM camera with a universal one, getting the measurements of the opening in the spoiler will be crucial for finding the right fit.
