i feel i overpayed with my extended warranty $2200.00 - thats bumper to bumper for i think 6 years / 100 k miles..... and here is what i like , mine goes from when i bought the car in sept of 2011. i actually think they made a mistake, and it was supposed to start from when the car was new and first hit the stealership.

so i paid too much. the finance guy said that the bank would not give me the loan without the extended warranty. ?

i may never use it if the 2014 5g is nice. oh well if i keep it for 6 years im covered. ive only got 17k miles right now.

yeah shady finance manager always do that. The guy at Lexus dealer told me the same thing. I simply asked him to finalize the paperwork or we're going to get the car at a different dealer

I wanted to do that, but i dont have excellent credit - yet, so i said the hell with it. seems like the finance manager was the person who was going to make $ on selling the warranty. do you guys agree?

i dont see my salesperson benefiting from me getting bent over for the warranty.

oh yeah i should say that he said 2400. for it, and i talked him down to 2200. he said they are barely making anything at the $2200. price point. yeah ok what ever.

i am very happy with my car, the sales guy was good. but it will be the last car i buy sight unseen, 1500 miles away.

from what I know the sale man and finance manager will divide the profit.
When dealing/buying/financing a new car, put in mind that dealers need your business. Even if you're not qualified, they will try everything to get you approved, they want to sell the car.

I got screwed by the dealership when I was 18 buying my first new car. From there I learned a lot by reading forum and research before buying.
A couple years after I took a home loan with great interest when everyone told me that I wouldn't qualify. I negotiated the price first, when everything was done I told them to check my credit, that I will be the only one on the loan without any cosign or more than 15% down payment, and I wanted that promotional rate, if not then we wouldn't buy the house. After a week they approved the loan. At closing day the guy told me that I was very lucky to have the loan approved, I just laughed it off. Wasn't you guy happy to sell the house?

But well man looks like you have a great car, AWD 6 MT! Don't let that little extra money bothers you. Be positive that the next purchase will definitely be better /cheer

I worked in auto dealerships for over 22 years. I was the Comptroller, so I saw how the entire dealership functioned. You are correct regarding the commissions paid the F&I person and salesman. In fact everything that is sold in the F&I office a commission is paid on. Financing, paint protection (a huge ripoff), warranties, credit life insurance, after market items such as splash guards etc. The amount you paid for extended service does seem out of line. However, I've not worked in a dealership since 96, so maybe that is a going price now. I do know when I worked at an Acura dealership (88-94) our Honda Factory extended warranty 5/50 was selling for $795.00. Our dealer cost was $350.00. A profit of $445.00. Our F&I person made $90.00 and the salesperson made $50.00. In case you are wondering what a good F&I manager makes per year it can run between $95,000 to $110,000 a year at a medium size dealership in good times. A salesman? $100,000 to $120,000 under the same conditions. Of course these examples are for top notch people. People who do not have very good sales skills make much less and are not kept at the dealership very long.

Interesting. $150 below dealer cost. Unusual that the mfr would ever undercut his own distribution chain, with the possible exception of nepotism. Anyone in your family a direct employee of or have any ties to Honda Motor Co.?

No one in my family or any friend is related to Acura/Honda.

Basically, the Finance Manager tried to sell me the extended warranty for $2200 but I told him that knowing Acura is reputable for it's reliability, I'll take my chances. Furthermore, I have a mechanic who owns a shop that works on BMW and Mercedes, so if anything should happen, I'll take my car to his shop to have it repaired. Then, he goes about saying how if any shop is not authorized with Acura and works on my car, my warranty is void. I responded by mentioning the Magnuson-Ferguson Law (forgot spelling?), but basically the manufacturer of the vehicle would have to prove that the aftermarket part installed on the vehicle has direct correlation with the faulty part. Dealer cannot just say that because there is an aftermarket part on the car, then the warranty is void. He looks surprised, then he finally said the magic words, "then what do you think is reasonable for extended warranty?"

2 Years ago, on my 2010 TL-SHAWD, I paid $1150 for a 10 YR, 100K mile bumper to bumper, $100 deductable... Then again 2 years ago the economy was bad, and lots of deals to be had... This was through the dealers Jaguar Diviion..

No. "Curry" is one of several offering the AccuraCare warranty, tho when I called them they were not the cheapest.

After several referrals and scouring the net, the best price I found for the real-deal, genuine article AccuraCare warranty was from Bob Leab at Hyannis Honda, Hyannis, Mass. They are also rated A+ with the Better Business Bureau.

Personally I would be awfully suspect of anyone offering the Real McCoy 7/100 AccuraCare warranty (with no deductible)for any less than $1050.

By agreement with Honda Motor Co., Bonafide Acura & Honda dealerships cannot advertise the price of their AcuraCare & HondaCare extended warranties on line. Any that do are a scam. Beware! You can shop on line to find dealers offering them, but you have to call the dealership to receive an actual quote. Any advertising the price on line are a scam. Beware! Then paperwork has to be faxed to you for you to sign & fax back. The deal cannot be fully consumated on line or over the phone. Any that do not require signed paperwork are a scam. Beware!

I bought a CPO 2009 Acura TL yesterday with 28k miles on it. The finance guy quoted me $1295 for 7yr/100k and said I need to sign it before I leave the dealership if I wanted it. When I said I do not want it, he said he will give me one more day i.e till today. After reading the previous posts on this topic it looks like folks have gotten it for around $980, $1020, $1040 and so on.
My question is can I call any other dealership and ask for a quote? or since I have already taken pocession of my car, and since the finance manager said he can back date my papers, would I need to go back to my dealer?

How did you get the quote directly from AcuraCare? I called them at 1-888-682-2872 and was told I have to go through a dealer. (If you don't press anything, the default dept is claims. Then ask to switch to contracts dept.)

I'd like to know how you got it direct so I can do the same.

Kadu, not sure if this will help based on the date you posted your message. I'm currently trying to decide between a CPO 2010 manny vs a brand new 2012 manny, and after much research and talking on the phone with Acura Care, this is what it boils down to:
  • Brand new: you can purchase Acura Care from any Acura/Honda dealership, separate from purchasing your vehicle.
  • Used/CPO: you must purchase at time of vehicle purchase from the same dealer, or the dealer that performed the certification on the specific car.

Hope this helps. I'm sure this is probably covered somewhere else in the forum, but I just joined. =)

When it's time to see the FInancial Advisor for my purchase of 2010 SH-AWD, he tried to hustle me, but I didn't give in. I basically responded by sales tactics, using professionalism and compliments at the same time. He finally gave in, and asked the magic question, "How much are you willing to pay for extended warranty?" the rest is history.

the thing about extended warranty.. i dont think ill ever be able to use it to the full extent. i fully believe that if you keep up with the regular maintenance if the car, your not bound to any factory issues..

those issues should happen even before you hit 60k.. anything after that your in the clear as far as factory issues. i really do consider that acura are very reliable cars.. Although forking out 1k for piece of mind is ok in price.. i dont think i need it.

btw dragonwang.. pick up your sideskirts or its mine!!!! mauuahahhaha

Lol shieet, i was thinking of picking up the sideskirts when my rims arrive (in about 2 weeks) since i have to borrower my friend's van to get those rims mounted with tires. he lives in arcadia, so on the way to my house, he can swing by and pick up the sideskirts. is that cool?

Thanks to AZ, Hyannis Honda has set up a web site to field such calls as Bob is getting inundated. Bob now redirects folks to http://www.hyannishondacare.com/plans.php

Plug in the information, and the website will email you a custom quote.

Attached was my quote which I obtained a few days ago with my recently purchased 2012 Acura TL. Great guy to work with. Been in constant contact since April 5 when I first signed my purchase agreement on a new TL. And once you take delivery of your car, you fill out the app form with the VIN, and he calls you to obtain your credit card information. He'll forward you the online Acura confirmation information, and in 4-6 weeks, AHFC will mail you your paper contracts and wallet card (which I haven't gotten yet).

looks like good prices. It says 'Hondacare' on the warranty...I assume it would apply to Acura vehicles. Lot of online sources state 'Acuracare'..don't know if that makes a difference.

Also..is this the 'bumper to bumper' warrany which includes electronics-Nav/radio, and the engine/trans?

The OEM bumper to bumper is 4/50 or 5/60? I can't remember. I know the powertrain is 6y/70K.

In Ontario, Canada, an EW covering 8yrs/200,000kms will set you back $2888. But what i find interesting is dealers are willing to negotiate when month end approaches to ensure set goals are achieved. I recall some years ago buying an EW for my car around the end of the month and getting almost $700 off.

The original is 4 years/50k miles I think. This is the same as Acuracare. Many people bought it before.

In the US, the factory vehicle warranty is 4-yrs/50K-miles.

In Canada, it is 5-yrs/100K-kms.

I had asked Bob this question about the warranty being "HondaCare" and not "AcuraCare" on the paperwork done and his explanation was that since they are a Honda dealership, the extended warranty paperwork will say HondaCare, but if it's an Acura that's being warrantied, AcuraCare is what is applied to it. He is right as once my paperwork was processed, everything I got in the mail said AcuraCare on it...

As to your question of what it covers, instead of finding what it does cover, it's usually better to find what it does NOT cover. This is a much shorter list than the covered items. The OEM bumper to bumper warranty is 4yrs/50k miles if I recall correctly...

thx for the correct info. The prices are reasonable. I know that Acura is a very reliable brand..but with all the electronics and expensive sh-awd equipment my car has, the ext. warranty is a good idea at least till 100K miles. One nav system glitch..that's $2-3K right there

I think the warranty is tranferable to the next owner which is a good selling point. Does anyonw know if the car is sold/traded in prior to warranty expiring that you get refunded the unused/prorated portion?

I found the following on Curry Acura's website:

"You can cancel Acura Care at any time, for any reason. If you cancel within 60 days, you will receive a 100% refund. After that, refunds are prorated by the time left on the contract or the mileage used."

I know that's also how it works with Honda Care, which we have on our 2006 Odyssey.

your chances of getting into an accident that could potentially total your car is far more greater than a factory mechanical issue happening on your acura.. thats how reliable they are.

great point. my car has been great to me but I was concerned that the 2004 and 2005s have had transmission problems but I guess If I was to have any issues it probably should have happened by now.

for the 4g, i havent seen many issues with it so far besides your usual cosmetic issues. but no mechanical that was major.

I got a 12 AWD TECH advance that came with a 4 year 50K miles. but i purchased the 7 year 100,000 miles for 1100.Thinking about calling the dealer and cancelling the 7/100000 warranty. I can get an extended warranty for my car when the warranty is about to expire.
