2024 MDX Type S Ultra or 2023 RDX Platinum Elite

Anyone have either or regret buying either one? I have a 2010 RDX that’s now dead. Need a new car. Surprised how expensive both are.
66k for the RDX and 95k for the MDX (cdn)

I wish they would have given a 6 cylinder option for the RDX. I like the MDX but as a single person, I do not need a row vehicle. My other option was a 2022 Lexus RX350 F Sport but Lexus no longer puts a Mark Levinson system in the RX.

Get the type S. This is my third Acura, 2013 RDX , 2021 RDX, and now Type S. The plastic wheel surrounds on the MDX is what made me choose the type S. The surprise was the fantastic smooth ride in the type S. I son't care much about the extra power, the four cylinder turbo I had was plenty fast for passing and merging.

I just love it.

Not everyone is in love with the infotainment. I suggest you drive both and see if the infotainment agrees w/you (same on both models).

The higher price point should have you also looking at other cars. I can vouch for the X3 as the iDrive7 system is superior to Acura's in every way. Feel free to PM me if needed.

Thanks for the replies so far. The infotainment def is a bit different. I had a 2023 RDX as a loaner last week, and I didn't even know how to put it in gear. That's how much the technology has changed for me. I drive a 2010 RDX, but recently the head gasket blew. Not worth the cost to fix.

Is that a Type S, or Type S ultra? Id get the Ultra if I was to buy one, with it not being much more money for the extra features.

I went and looked at BMW, and the sales people were super snobby when they saw me walk in. They didn't want to give me the time of day. I really take that into account if I was to purchase if they give a shit impression. I have also heard that the maintenance costs are drastically higher??? Any insight?

BMW offers complimentary maintenance for the first 3 years/36k miles. Out of pocket maintenance will be higher than Acura's (which is some premium over the comparable Honda service).
I've been to some good BMW dealers and some bad ones. I wouldn't give up on the brand unless no one within a reasonable driving distance for service treats me right.

Here in Canada for 2024 there is only one model of Type S. Be careful at BMW with the options packaging. For example, even if you get the Premium Enhanced Package plus the M Sport Package, you won't get Adaptive Cruise Control. In the BMW closest to me there were no X5's on the lot with ACC. Once you have ACC you won't want to ever live without it.

I’ve owned 2 BMWs and never again. Because of the free maintenance for 5y or 50K, everything’s free. Anything wrong with the car, drop it off, get a free cappuccino and a free loaner car. No problem. But both my BMWs were in the shop far more than any other car I have owned. So when the 5/50K expires, you’re in for $300 oil changes and repairs for minor things that will easily cost $1000 per incident. No more German luxury vehicles for me. I have a volkswagen GTI and a new leased 2024 MDX Type S Advance. Love them both! Second choice for SUV was the Escalade because the lease payments for an Escalade (1550-ish) are less than for a Tahoe High Country (2200-ish) which is priced below the escalade! But the base model gas hog escalade doesn’t have many of the options that the MDX has. Like seat massage, leather, ventilated seats, 25 speaker stereo, etc etc.

I don't recall BMW ever giving 5 years worth of free maintenance. How long ago was this?

That's more like it. For MY17 onwards, BMW actually reduced the free maintenance to 3 years instead of 4. Hasn't stopped the brand from attaining #1 status for performance/safety/reliability according to Consumer Reports (check the 2nd link for Acura's ranking).

well… I personally don’t know of anyone that consults those lists other than out of curiosity. If someone wants an Escalade, they won’t switch to a Telluride. Same with Porsche. My experience with BMWs is that they are great cars, but minor things always plagued my two 335i cars. That experience means I will never buy that brand again. Your mileage may vary, though. I’m sure others have better experiences with the brand. From BMW I switched to a VW GTI. Totally reliable and very few issues. Customer satisfied and would buy a VW again. Owned Honda. Would buy again. Owned Jeep. Would buy again. Owned Mini, no problems, decent car, but would not buy again. Mainly because they keep growing in size and have lost their charm as a result.

great conversation!!!

For what it is worth, I have a 2023 MDX Type-S Advance and as a loaner car as my 2022 TLX Type-S is being services (rear rattle), I’ve been driving a MDX Advance for the last three weeks.

The noticeable difference between the Type-S MDX Advance and “regular” MDX Advance is night and day. So much so that I park the Regular MDX loaner and drive my Type-S Advance …just saying. Worth every penny extra. Sound. Speed. Braking. Handling. ….

If I had bought out my '18 MDX Tech lease, I probably would have been interested in the redesigned current gen at some point. Unfortunately, my TLX experience and not being able to live w/the infotainment really soured me on Acura.

I'm not opposed to coming back to Acura at some point, but it would take a monumental shift to convince me to spend the same money as the Germans.
