10-speed transmission

I'm curious from the new 2022 owners how the 10-speed transmission shifts. Specifically when backing out of your driveway and you engage drive (from reverse), is there that annoying lag that plagues the 9-speed?

Our 2016 MDX's 9-speed shift patterns were quite bad and while the 2018 has been noticeably better, it's still a subpar shift pattern IMO. Especially the aforementioned reverse to drive or accelerating from a dead stop. It's similar to turbo lag and I very much hope the 10-speed has better shift mapping.

If it's like the 3rd gen RDX, then in my nearly 3 years of ownership, I've yet to experienced any lag/delay when it comes to shifting from reverse to drive or vice versa. You just gotta make sure you are not going to fast when making the change or else the car would not change gear (likely to protect the drivetrain).

The ZF 9AT is known to be horrendous and one of the worst transmissions out there. While not quite as good as the ZF 8AT found in many RWD cars, the 10AT is miles better than the ZF 9AT.

The ZF9 is so bad, it's now transitioned from the MDX to the QX60.

Yes it is still there but subtle in addition to pillowy brakes, but i have noticed it more on the incline as my driveway is. But when i am backing on the street its seamless, no hesitation. I have about 150 miles on it so still monitoring and i don't know if there is a break in period for MDX's.

I've only been on an extended test drive, but I thought the 10 speed tranny was flawless!

I had a ‘22 ASpec for a test drive a couple weeks ago and I would tend to agree with the favourable comments about the 10 speed. I had a 2017 MDX and the transmission didn’t feel right. It wasn’t as bad as my 2015 TLX, but it wasn’t great. The 10 speed is night and day different.

Man I hope so.

Our pattern is to lease our Acuras and then buy them if desired. We've purchased several, but our 2016 and 2018 MDXs' transmission frustrations have prohibited any desire to purchase. Hopefully the 2022 provides more confidence for a future purchase.

I just lease a black on black. I drove over 150 miles to get back home and I have to say that the 10 speeds was really smooth. No jerking what so ever.

Had the MDX for about 2 weeks. Transmission is much smoother than the 19' RDX I traded. Loving the MDX so far.

I have the 19 MDX and to me the transmission is smooth. I understand the 19 has been properly programmed to shift smoother. I have driven the 3rd gen RDX and I know it is a 4 banger, but that 10 speed tranny is smooth. I just prefer a V6 engine.

My 20 Advance SH-AWD is smooth as well. My previous 17 Tech, not so. Acura seemed to make some nice improvements from earlier model ZF9s to the 19s and 20s. My 20 shifts so much smoother than my 17. No issues after 6000 miles and 9 months. Hasn’t been back to the dealer at all.

Do you feel any difference with the 10AT with shifting and smoothness with the different IDS modes? I would lean toward Sport or Individual IDS modes if I decide to upgrade to the +22 MDX.

Considering you are coming from the MDX SH, I'm not sure you would appreciate the dropoff in fuel econ under SPORT mode.

I'm still holding out hope for a Sport Hybrid around the 2025 MMC for the MDX. I'm fine with my 19 MDX exterior; but, the 4th Gen MDX interior knocked it out of the park.
