Red face Your opinion: How do you like these 18' Rota Grid wheels?

http://my350z.com/forum/media-share/...per-black.html

The front wheels on this 350Z are 18x8.5 and rear are 18x9.5. What do you guys think?

1) 18x9.5 okay for TL? Too wide for good handling (hence 8'/8.5' are better)?

2) Matte Bronze color good? Black (e.g. Flat Gunmetal) or silver look better on a black car?

3) Bang for the buck wheels? "Friends don't let friends roll on Rotas?"

I'm going back and forward among A-SPEC 18x8, Type-S 17x8, and Rota Grid 18x9.5. They're about the same price for a set of used with tires on.

No to Rota. Yes to wheels.

I believe XXR makes these also, 521?

XXR 522? These wheels in the picture are 18x9.5 +38 flat black.

XXRs are a lot cheaper. $130 per wheel for new, comparing to $250 per wheel new for Rota Grid and $3,300 per wheel new for Volk TE37SL.

Lots of people run 9.5"+ wide rear wheels on their TL's without any issues.

I personally love bronze on any color car.

3) Bang for the buck wheels? "Friends don't let friends roll on Rotas?"
Several members here have the 18x9.5+20 (NOT +38) Grids that are super concave and fit almost perfectly flush right out of the box. I'd get that size over what's on the Z you pictured.

!!!!
You mean +20 offset is better than +38 offset? I thought an offset closer to stock (+45) should be better for handling.. If the wheelbase is wider due to +20 offset, will this compromise the vehicle's cornering ability?

Correction: On the 3# post by myself, Volk TE37SL should be $800 per wheel new. $3,300 is for 4 wheels.

I've been reading posts. It seems that smaller offset (effectively wider wheelbase) helps handling:

Effects of Low Offset on Handling of our FWD cars
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-tires-wheels-suspension-97/effects-low-offset-handling-our-fwd-cars-840727/

Also it seems wider wheels and tires, as long as they're not too wide to decrease acceleration, helps cornering on tarmac as well:

Other than the blurriness on the lateral cables on the bridge's suspension system, that is an awesome photo.. great depth of field.

Nothing wrong with grids...use to run them on my car...go with 9.5 et 30 front and 9.5 et 38 rear and add 10mm spacers on rear...my two cents....

Could the color scheme be a little bit monotonous?

I personally prefer this kind of photographs. They are somewhat very unusually, very otherworldly.

Well now I'm lost in thought whether I should get a set of 18x9.5 +20 Grids or 18x9 +38 Grids...

Personally, I think the only good looking TE37 knock offs are Varrstoens.

That question is somewhat subjective. I get what you're saying, but the natural affect from the environment, mixed with the depth in that shot creates a nice image IMO.

It's not the best I've ever seen but I thought it was noteworthy lol

Varrstoens are expensive replicas though, $1000+ a set. You can get a set of A-Specs or Rotas for much cheaper, especially if they are used.

IIRC, aren't those Rotas around $900/set anyway? Only the 9.5+" width Varrstoens are $1k+. If you're not dead set on a 9.5" width, you can get the new 8.5" width for $900/set. They go down to a +15 offset in that width too. Although the only offset I've actually seen for sale so far in that width is like +45 or something.

Yes to Rota Grids & XXR if you're on a budget. But IMO 18's are just too small for the TL.
