Which Yokohama's
Hey all-
So me and my 07 TL-S were out for a nice leisurly drive along GW Parkway in DC Sunday night when some a-holes decided to race up the parkway at about 100mph and run me off the road. Luckily no damage to the car other than an exploded front tire.
So I'm taking this opportunity to ditch the Michelin's and upgrade to a set of Yokohama's. My question is, which ones. I know a lot of members have put the Yokohama AVID W4S on their TL's and have been positive, but I was wondering if any one had put the newer Yokohama ADVAN S.4. on their TL-S? I'd like to go ahead and try to get these ordered today but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the ADVAN's over the AVID's?
Thanks!
Sno

In Search Of Sunrise....
I could be wrong, but I believe the Advan S4 is purely a summer/performance tire, where as the the W4S is high performance - all season tire.
I've had the W4S for about 20K miles now (boston and dallas) and i HIGHLY recommend them! IMO you get the best bang for the $$$. Very WIDE look which i personally like and i believe its the widest tire you can get to replace stock. Very quiet, and great on performance. Tread wear is also great too!! Although i have started to notice "soft" spots on cold mornings, but once the tires warm up, i'm good to go.
I know the S4's have much better ratings and reviews, but they also cost a good $80 more per tire! If money isn't an issue, id say S4's, but W4S will get you the most bang for the $$$.. No complaints what so ever.

I own a set of Advan S.4.'s. They're sold as UHPAS tires, but if you plan on leaving them on all year, the first time you get some snow you'll realize you made the wrong choice. They're like riding on banana skins in snow and ice, and they also get the flat spots in cold.
These are hands-down some of the best 3-season tires I've ever owned, but IMO they just suck in winter. Downright dangerous in extreme conditions. I wound up buying a set of winter wheels with winter tires and swapping them out seasonally.

Its really a bad plan to put summer tires on in the snow belt unless you can, either leave the car home or have a set of winter tires to swap out to.

I also have the 245/45-17 S.4 all-seasons. They have around 8,000 miles on them. They haven't seen PA winters yet, so I'm a bit concerned now after reading the previous post. (Will most likely put winter tires on)
Advan S.4 all season:
- They're decent in the rain.
- Tread wear seems to be minimal after 8,000 miles. (might be they're biggest strength, but too soon to make that conclusion)
- Can't comment on the flat spots.
- They corner OK. (my Pirelli's were better)
Will I buy again? Maybe, my Pirelli Pzero Nero's M+S were better tires from a handling perspective. (Softer compound with the Pirelli's maybe? They seemed to burn up quicker than the Advan S.4s.)

I see that most of you guys have upgraded from the 235/45 to the 245/40....any issues with that. Reading everyone's post - I'm thinking I may stay with the W4's but upgrade size.

245 should be no problem, I am running on 255x40x17 Yoko ES-100's
They have plenty of clearance all round.

Total Typo...my bad. I think I'm definately going to move forward with teh 245/45-17 instead of the stock size. I've always thought that tire was too small.

I was going to get the avan's but went with the avid w4's. I talked with tire rack and concluded that the difference between them for me would not justify the extra cost. I've always liked yokohama's quality. I defintely are happier with the yokos over the michelins. good tire

Oh yeah make sure the diameter of the tire is close enough to stock. Unless you don't care about knocking off the speedometer[
