Will 07-08 Type-S Waffle Wheels fit my '06?

Recently failed inspection because of the spacers on my current aftermarket wheels because they wouldn't clear my Brembo's up front that come with the ASPEC. I'm looking into buying the Waffle Wheels from an 07-08 Type-S, and I'm wondering if they would fit my 06 ASPEC and comfortably clear the Brembos up front? Thanks!

Yes, if the waffles are OEM they will clear the Brembo brakes as all Type-S models have the Brembo brakes as well. My understanding is the aftermarket waffle wheels may not clear.

Thanks for the response! That sucks because I was planning on buying a set of aftermarket waffles from eBay! Anyone have any experience with them?

If you're shopping on E-Bay, you can find both new aftermarket wheels as well as refurbished OEM wheels, go with the latter because they are the only ones guaranteed to fit.

^or any other original OEM wheels. Just to add that!

NBP04TL4ME 04-19-2019 06:57 PM

Yes any OEM 3G TL rims will fit.

Be careful with that statement. The '07/'08 base TL wheels will fit on cars equipped with Brembo brakes, but the clearance between the wheel and caliper is less than what Brembo recommends.

Is the clearance different on the split spoke rims than the original ones from '04?

Turbonut 04-24-2019 08:45 AM

Never personally checked them, but years ago a fellow pm'd me that he didn't like the waffle wheels so installed the '07/'08 base wheels, and although he could spin with no rubbing, he couldn't fit a credit card between the caliper/wheel. He added wheel spacers to be sure.
3mm minimum

Great info on this thread, thanks folks. I’m in a bind myself that I can’t get the answer to and I think this thread might have been gold. I bought 2008, 6 speed accord coupe, my second one. Pretty much the same chassis we are talking about, I have been researching the same TL-s wheels to clear my stop techs front brakes. I know I need spacers, the car already has them with the current Limited Junction Produce wheels. I’m only worried about swapped them out and the wheels not clearing the calipers. From what it sounds like, the ones will, correct? Thanks for any help, I’ve been trying to work this out for a few days now.

Unless someone here has tried that combination, there is no way to know for sure until you put yourself into guinea pig mode. Said another way, just because the 2004-2006 5-Spoke wheels and the 2007-2008 Waffle wheels will clear the Brembo calipers, that in no way means they will clear the StopTech calipers.

This ^^.

I know, that’s why I presented the question. Quoting a post and arrows really aren’t needed, it doesn’t help me.

My point in making this comment was to see if some has already done it before I made a post since it related to my situation. Judging by the replies I can see I’m wasting my time here with folks and worthless replies that couldn’t figure that out on their own.👍

What we're trying to tell you is there is no way to know, and as far as I know, on this Acura forum, nobody here has tried StopTech calipers in a Gen 7 Accord.

Think about it this way, 3G TL owners of non-Type-S and non-6-Speed cars who want four-piston calipers, will simply scour the junk-yards for a 3G TL already equipped with the Brembos, and bolt them on. While I don't know this for a fact, I suspect Gen 7 V6 Accords can also be upgraded just as easily. With these items in mind, it is pretty plain to see your odds of finding someone who's done what you did are pretty damned low.

Long story short, put yourself in guinea pig mode, and try some 3G TL wheels (except the 2007-2008 non-Type-S wheels) on for size. If you do, please report back so that in the year 2031, when the next person follows you lead, they can benefit from your experience.

Thank you very much for your constructive help. It’s a 08 coupe and from my understanding the design is the same as the 3 gen TL as the 8th gen accords, That’s why I was hoping it has been done before here on a TL with the Type S wheels. The kits have the exact same components in them as well, so everything that I’m seeing is the same. Please correct me if I’m wrong sir. Thank you again.

The kits have the exact same components as what? The Brembo brakes on a 6MT or Type-S model? If so, that's news to me.

08smr6mt 06-12-2019 08:21 PM

The 3rd gen TL stoptech 4pot kit and the 8th gen accord. Same calipers and such. I know spacers are needed due to the stock 55mm offset. My goal is putting the car on tein flex Z at a 1 inch drop on stock wheels at 245/40/18 tires. Only thing left is the wheel choice. It’s currently on aftermarket wheels it came with when I bought it. Not my style, I want to swap back to stock.🙂

horseshoez 06-12-2019 08:43 PM

You missed the point, why would someone bother putting the StopTech kit on a 3G TL when OEM 4-Pot Brembo calipers are so readily available and so inexpensive?

08smr6mt 06-12-2019 09:05 PM

That never crossed my mind as I researched. Very good point, thank you. I’ve come across a stoptech wheel clearance diagram for the kit on their site,I just need the wheel at this point.
