Michelin's cost more and they couldn't get enough of them to put them on all the cars..so they put them on their "top of the line" models only.

So the 06 non-navi cars still have Bridgestones? I thought all the 06 cars had the Michelins. They ride way better than the Bridgestones, although a tad soft, but I pumped them up to 36 and they ride reall good now and my gas mileage is decent as well about 23 MPG average around town.

I have an '04 with 24k miles. The tires are needing to be replaced. I see Acura's service bulletin. However, with 24k miles I would have to pay 75% of the replacement of the same tires. I would rather pay 100% and put Michelins on the car. What is the best place to buy the tires? All I can find is about $215 per tire. Any deals out there?

Did you try the tire rack, they have pretty good prices via the internet, or phone order, been in buisness for 10 plus years, call them or go to the web site tirerack.com

i rode a loaner car the other day from the dealer with the bridgstones. what a piece of sh*t. I heard a lot of talk about "flat spots" and never knew what it felt like until then. Glad I got the navi, and the michelins are a huge bonus

I like to buy my tires from Costco. Free rotation and service (patching, inflating, etc) for the life of the tire. The prices there are generally cheaper and at least once a year they have a special for an extra discount on a set of 4. The catch is that they work on stock wheels only and not on aftermarket wheels (at least the ones I go to). Lets not forget you need to be a member.

Ya, costco has the Michelin Pilot MXM4's we have on ours cars. Too bad they cost more than the Michelin PS2's...dunno why? And, twice a year i think you get 60 bucks off a set of 4 michelins.

I got my dealer to replace bridgestones with michelins for $100

Basically, they got Acura to agree to replace the Bridgestones at about 28,000 miles, then they did a side deal with me where I paid the price difference to do the upgrade. Not sure how easy this is to accomplish. This is my third new Acura in a row from the same dealer and I also have had a lot of problems with pull in the car, so I don't know how much those factors entered into their willingness to do this.

Question Manual gets Bridgestone Potenza

And let's not forget that the manual transmission TL uses Bridgestone Potenza.

Bridgstone Turanza all-season tires are standard. Buyers of Acura TLs with navigation can opt for a less aggressive Michelin tire, and six-speed models are outfitted with Bridgstone Potenza performance rubber. Acura says just five percent of the 2004 Acura TLs sold will have performance tires on them, mainly in Sunbelt states.
http://www.aicautosite.com/reviews/2004-acura-tl.asp

Even Acura's news website does not explain the reason for the various tires.
Tires
Bridgestone 17-inch all-season high-performance tires were developed for the TL. The standard tire is P235/45R17 M+S (all-season), with 235/45R17 high-performance tires available for the TL with 6-speed manual transmission. Navigation system-equipped models without the optional high performance tires are shod with Michelin all-season tires. The 2006 TL is now equipped with a tire pressure monitor.

The 17-inch tires significantly contribute to the TL design objectives including its aggressive, athletic appearance. They also measurably improve dry handling and braking.

Available high-performance tires further enhance dry handling, wet handling and braking, at the cost of performance in snow and accelerated wear. In warm weather these tires consistently outperform all-season tires in slalom speed, maximum cornering g force, and braking distance.

About 99 percent of US-market TL units have all-season tires (80 percent in Canada). The remaining five percent of TL purchasers (mostly in Sunbelt states) select the optional high-performance tires.

What do you mean by they dont work on aftermarket wheels? Like do they refuse to do work? I was planning to go to Costco to get tires mounted for the a-spec wheels. Do you think they will mount them?

Try www.discountiredirect.com. I saw Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S for $140 a piece plus s&h.
