why are dealers charging so much??

I have called Acura dealers in my area, and pretty much all of them have quoted me $500+ to install my comptech springs on my 04 TL. A local shop will do it for $140, but esp since this would be the shop's first 04 TL, i'm kinda weary of having them do it, esp with the seat removal and such... and I'd feel more comfortable having an Acura dealer doing it... but man... $500 doesn't even include the alignment!

That price is a joke. Let the local shop do it and let the dealer know you went elsewhere because of their out of line price.

Per Comptech, installation time is 2-3 hours. $500 divided by 3 hours is $166.67 per hour. That is a big time rip off. Don't pay it!!!

If the local shop is going to do it, just make sure that they have done Accords and other Acuras. Most have a similar set up in which the rear seats have to be removed.

Really, the job isn't all that technical, its just a matter of finding someone that will put the time/effort into taking the suspension apart. Pain in the ASS.

The dealer claims the techs say that each wheel takes 1.5 hours. 1.5hrs x 4hrs = 6hrs x approx $90-$100/hr = $540 - $600 for job

Thats a joke...the guy I took it to had not installed a set of springs in the new TL yet, and was done in like 2&1/2 hours. With all of the equipment, employees and knowledge that a dealer should have, it should take no more than 2.5-3 hours. Also, in my experience, $60/hour for labor is the typical going rate.
