Wheel rubbing on Caliper
Hello all,
I recently had a cracked rim so I replaced it with a stock OEM 17" rim. Right when I installed the rim, I noticed the the clearing space between the caliper and the wheel was almost non-existent. I have the big Brembo looking calipers. I put the car in neutral to roll it down the hill and heard the most disgusting sound ever. Immediately stopped and checked it out, my brake caliper is stripped of the black paint
The rotor seems kind of loose, and I tried various torque setups.
Any thoughts
Thank you so much

The 17" should clear Brembos no problem though... what year is your car ?

I think I figured it out. So when I was looking at the car before I bought it, I noticed that there were only 3 of the five lug nuts. So I told them to put the two that were missing on for me. I went out and bought new lug nuts because I dont like the stock ones, and I think that the disk warped. The disk warped in the direction that it was pushing in the rotor and pushing the caliper towards the wheel. I'll let you guys know the problem tomorrow.

OEM lugs or at least lugs with ball seat rather than acorn right

Thanks for that first part! That ended up being the issue. So Acura TL's have built in spacers in the front two wheels while the rear wheels dont have any. The wheel I bought didn't have the spacer and thus was a rear wheel. My luck was that the other rear wheel had a spacer so we just did some swichy swappy action.
Yeah, it was just a random guess. :P

This is 100% true, and a common cause of rotor warp.

For the 2005 Acura TL with big brakes in the front, the front two wheels have a really small spacer built in to the offset (what it looks like) I ended up ordering a rear wheel, the rears dont have those spacers due to the brakes being smaller and having the brembo looking caliper. Hard to explain, i'll try and include pictures later.

As i've said, i'll post pictures.
But heres the full story.
I was driving along one day trying to get to work, i hit a bad pothole, didn't think much of it tbh. Got to work and revisted my car during the day, only to see that my wheel pressure was at basically little to nothing. I got my compressor and starting putting air into it, and as time went on, it kept on loosing air. Finally, I took of the wheel from the car to do the soap test, found that the rim itself was cracked from the lip. I ordered a replacement wheel from eBay that ensured a good OEM fit, the wheel looked amazing and I put the tire on the wheel and put it on the front passenger side. When I put it on, I noticed that the wheel scrubbed the caliper and took off some of the paint from the caliper. Took it to the dealership as I thought it couldve been a warped rotor (Three bolts were only found, thats what lead me to the warped rotor theory) I also put the wheel from the back to the front, same story.
At the dealership, we jacked up the whole car and I noticed a really small seam along the hub to the wheel, and noticed that it was on the front wheel as well. So I put the wheel on the back (Driver side) with the small seam, and put it to my front passenger side. Viola, no more rubbing. Put the new wheel and the wheel I tried putting to the back, and the problem hasnt occurred since.

Yeah.... if you had told us all of that from the get-go that would have helped big time.. It's like a detective book in here trying to figure out the problem
If you believe OP got into an accident, turn to page 5
If you believe OP bought a bad wheel, turn to page 3.
You have died of dysentery.

OP, are you sure that's an original OEM rim and not an aftermarket replica replacement? I had the same problem and it turned out the aftermarket replicas cannot clear the Brembo calipers. In fact, if you look on ebaY for those rims, you'll find that the replicas for sale now state "Will Not Fit 6MT's with Brembo Brakes". Any replacement rims MUST be an original OEM!

Sounds like your issue is that you more than likely bought a replica wheel that does not fit (wrong offset).
Seems to be the case since you believe there is a "rear" and "front" wheel. (our cars aren't RWD so the chance of having a front and rear wheel on a FWD is practically 0).
