What tires should I get?
Hello everyone, this is my first post here!
I recently purchased a 2005 TL automatic with about 100,000 miles on it. The car came with all-season Michelin Pilot Sport tires, which have about 5/32nds to 4/32nds remaining. Currently, I'm beginning my search to find a new set of tires.
I live in the Midwest where we often see a decent bit of snow, I would like to have something that works well in the winter and summer and maybe cost a bit less than the Michelin Pilot Sports. What would you recommend?
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum! The best bang for the buck are the tires I have, the General GMax AS-05's. Rated as high as the Michelin Pilot Sports A/S in Consumer Reports, for about 2/3 the price! I'm on my 2nd set now and will buy again in a heartbeat.

I strongly 2nd this, I'm also on General GMax AS-05's for the past 10k miles. Will buy them again as well, great value in a great all-season high performance tire. Definitely not a snow tire, but I've driven in several inches of snow cautiously and they're OK.

Currently running these on my 07 5AT, and fully intend to put them on my 08 6MT when it's time. Finland based company, known for snow tires. I'm in southwest Missouri and we don't get a ton of snow (more ice...yuck)

They are quiet, smooth, and for the $ a no brainer for my Type S's

I just picked up a set of Nankang NS-25 all seasons a couple weeks ago. I enjoy them so far, grippy and fairly quiet. Surprisingly comfortable. I got mine on Simpletire for like 315 I think.

Responding to both of these same recommendations: with you 2 endorsing this and looking it up myself, it definitely seems like a quality tire without bleeding dry your wallet...I love it!!
I need to replace some cheapo tires on my beater red TL so this will be my go to now.
Now to hunt for a tire shop that has a free alignment special when you buy a set of 4 tires.....

I use Achilles ATR Sports. I do a lot of spirited driving for Postmates and they've been serving me well. $68.

I mean....if $100 is such trivial difference...then go ahead and get the tried and true Michelins.
The General is a value play....still VERY good value since it is still high quality but also for those who can use the extra dollars elsewhere.
I just got the GMax AS-05s 2 days ago on my 06 TL. Love it so far!!! Great choice guys and good to have stumbled upon this thread just before I needed tires.

I always check the 4-digit manufacture date code and mine is right around mid to late 2020 manufacturing....not the freshest set but still new. I had the local shop just get it from their stock instead of doing the tire rack thing (which I assume would be newer tires). But indeed no need to go older gen when looking at tires

Will default to AS-05 for my next set. May try 245/40r17 on the stockies.
