What tires did you replace your EL42's with
It's about 16,000 miles and my EL42's are worn out.
I have been looking at some Continental ContiExtremes and Pirelli PZero Nero M&S. I am looking for a set of good All Season High Performance tires. I know this is a compromise tire vs a good summer set but since I live in Ohio and the weather is unpredictable I would rather get a set of performance oriented All Season tires.
So the question is....what tires did you put on your TL and how do you like them as far as:
I am looking to get a set within the next few weeks so any feedback would be appreciated.

- What is the Tire
- How is the wear
- How does it handle (better or worse than the EL42)
- Is it louder than the EL42's

- What is the Tire: Falken 512
- How is the wear: Much better than EL42
- How does it handle (better or worse than the EL42): Better. No flatspot or hydroplane. Much better in wet surface, cornering, etc, almost everything.
- Is it louder than the EL42's: Hard to say. I feel it's as quiet as EL42 in the beginning. But, since I have it more than 10k now, the noise is getting louder, especially in the slow speed.
IMO, as for my next tyre, I may upgrade to Pirelli PZero Nero M&S or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

Pzero M&S. LOVE IT! I replaced the EL42's at 15,000 miles and I've added about 8K on these Pzero's. They rock and will last much, much longer-- they still look new. Handling is far better than the EL42's. There is no downside to these.

One on the right for me
Bridgestone Potenza RE750...have a little more road noise than the el42 but handle so so so much better in the rain and when its dry. i am very happy with these tires but when they wear out i am going to try a different brand just to see what else is out there.

- How is the wear: I changed mine out fairly early, but better than EL42
- How does it handle (better or worse than the EL42): TONS Better. No flatspotting or hydroplaning. Sticks to the road like glue.
- Is it louder than the EL42's: The same if not quieter. But I think its a tad quieter

I wore out my Bridgestone Potenzas (HPT) in 15,500 miles...replaced them with the new Toyo Proxes 4s (PX-4s).
Installed my camber kit then went to the tire shop and got the tires, high speed balance, and alignment the next morning. Good tires! The Bridgestones were crap.

Whats the tire ?: Yokohama ES100 Ultra High Performance All Season
Hows the wear? Great so far (8000 miles and still look new)
Hows does it handle ? Outstanding. I took the TL to some twisties the motocycles ride and it handled great.
Are they louder than the EL42's ? Yes, they have a more aggressive footprint. Not much louder, but noticible under hard braking.
My EL42's were showing belts at 18,000 miles. The ES100's are supposed to last 40K. I'll be happy with 30K.

I had PZero Nero M+S on my old Integra for a while and was happy with them. They were not the sportiest tires I've ever been on, but were a commendable blend of comfort, grip, noise, and treadwear.
I would recommend researching any options at the Tire Rack in addition to these forums. They have a lot of comparisons, owner reviews, and information available to help you weigh alternatives. I've also purchased several sets from them and been very happy with their service, pricing, and responsiveness.

Trashed the crapanzas at 25k miles ..... they actually looked like I could have gotten another 20k miles or so out of them but they sucked.
Replaced them with Toyo Proxes 4's. I can't say enough good things about this tire. They stick to the road like velcro and are not as noisey as the EL42's were. My TL feels like a totally different car now. Like it should have felt from day #1. Toyo's prices are very easy to live with also. Good luck with your choices.

What is the Tire? Falken ST115 245/40/18's from Discount Tire at $123 per.
How is the wear? 2000 miles on them and OK so far but it's too early to tell.
How does it handle? They handel as good or better than my OEM tires.

I currently have the Michellin Pilot Sport on my '05... I have to replace 2 of them due to potholes... I have a bulge on the sidewall on two of the tires (only 7k miles)
I'll probably go with the Falken's and replace all the tires. The dealer wants $293/tire for the Pilots while the Falkens are around $125.
There was a poll on one of the threads about tires. There's a few that are highly rated - the Pirelli PZero Nero, Michellin Pilot Sport, and the Falken IIRC.
So, I would base my decision on price plus the probability of hitting potholes. Rochester can get pretty bad. How is Ohio?

What is the Tire? Dunlop SP Sport 5000
How's the wear? I have over 10K on them and no problems yet, they look to go 40K.
How does it handle? Fantastic. Much better in the wet. Snow traction was no problem this winter.
Is it louder than EL42's? No. The tires seem slightly louder as they wear but it is really more road dependent than tire dependent. Worn roads are noisier than new/freshly paved asphalt roads. Concrete is louder than asphalt.
The tire looks fantastic on the car. Nice sidewall and great asymetrical tread design. I plan to use these again when they are worn out as I need an all season tire.
For dry tires, try the new Dunlop SP Sport Maxx. I had a chance to test these during a ride and drive on a BMW 330i. Great handling at the limits and they held up well to the autocrossing abuse.
