What is a "Rim"?????

I've been driving and owning cars since 1945. All of my cars have had wheels. All of these wheels have had rims. However, what all of you members have been calling "Rims" are really wheels! Correct?

Correct! See #3 (Taken from Dictionary.com) :

rim ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rm)
n.
  1. The usually curved or circular border or edge of an object. See Synonyms at border.
  2. The circular outer part of a wheel, furthest from the axle.
  3. A circular metal structure around which a wheel tire is fitted.

Yes, probably because of the polished rims/outside lips of the wheels.
The younger generations keep changing the language when referring to wheels or aftermarket wheels. You probably remember the styled steel wheels and "mags"(magnesium alloy wheels); I grew up calling aluminum wheels "mags" and then "alloys."
This "rims" business isn't as bad as the "bling" and "spinners" references, though.
