I just got my tires in from discount tire, is there anything i can do to minimize the dmg done to my rims? or take a precautionary step?

Use some painters tape?

Look for somone with a touchless mounting system .. and request the don't use an impact.

Tire rack has a link in thier site for approved installers.

I used to work at discount tire for the summer. If they scratch or damage a wheel in any way they have to buy you a new one. Just show them before they mount the tires that there is no damage on them. when they are finished if there is damage tell them you want them to buy you a new rim.

painters tape wont do it, if they don't have a policy to buy you a new rim then go somewhere else

$2400 worth of Volks + $700 worth of tires + 4 months of waiting = a lot at risk...

I walked into the tire place (which specialized in performance tuners) with receipts, and all equipment NIB... I explined my concern to the manager, and walked out with a written liability statement if damages occur.

Granted I paid $125 for a good mount and balance (about 2X what it sould cost), it's worth it for the liability.

Your best protection is to do your homework and NOT let "Homer" touch your equipment.

^^^ yeah one doh too many means u will end up with scratched rims... i find it usually around the centercap where the arm to mount the tire sits... if the felt is worn out, it will scratch the rim...

I always tip the technician 20 bucks and buy him a soda from the pop machine before he starts working on my car. He'll have the biggest smile on his face and will definetly take care of you and your wheels/tires. Good luck bro. Had Advan Kruezers 5 series put on my 00 Prelude and 05 Accord EX-L and not a scratch or anything before I got the TL. Promised the wifey no more mods. Sad day for me. No es bueno.

Yah Honestly.. not sure what I'm going to say to the manager, I have to think of a game plan because they do seem like they want to see / discuss this out. I have before pictures / after pictures and this will probably help my case. I also have an allaby from the previous shop I went but there balancer rig was non-functional and thats why I went to Goodyear. So if all else fails or if they don't believe me I'll get a letter saying that he witnessed that the rims were infact in mint condition when they came in the shop.

Update -

Tires were mounted and balanced at the Champlin, MN Goodyear, I spoke to them today, and then they promptly ordered two new rims. Service was good and there was no real hesitation, other then they wanted to resurface them, and I said no.

I feel much better.
