Want Sumitomo tires but....
tirerack would not sell them to me because their load capacity is approx 100lbs less than the stock michelins. The sumitomo htr+ has a load cap of approx 1300lbs and the stock mich have a load cap of approx 1400lbs. Is that 100lbs difference a major concern or is it within a tolerable limit?
thanks

Well, if the weight of the car is around 3,700 pounds with people in it, and a 60/40 weight split front to rear, that would put an estimated 1110 lbs on each front wheel. I don't see a big deal with 1300 lbs vs. 1400 lbs... (and with people in it, the weight distribution wouldn't be 60/40 any more - I'd probably be more even)
BTW - I've never heard of the Tire Rack doing that - did you bring up the load rating or did they?

Just looked at the max load rating of the car... It's actually kind'a close...
At 3470 (typical TLS w/navi) + 850 (max load rating), with a 60/40 weight distribution, that's 1296 lbs for each front wheel - awfully close to the 1300 limit.
I still think the weight ratio wouldn't be 60/40 anymore - maybe more like 55/45 - at that, it's 1188/front wheel.
It's close, but I think they should sell them to 'ya. They're probably afraid of litigation if one blows.
(that sucks - I was going to buy them as well.....)

What a load of ****. According to their site, the The stock tires are 1433, and the Sumi's are 1356 (only a 77 lb diff.)
Hey - if they don't sell them to you, go somewhere else and get them. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

They sold them to me tooo. They didn't say anything. I just needed some tires for tempery anyways. I didn't feel like paying alot. Suminto are lik 99 bucks so that's a deal for the money and also their treadwear is alot better than the OEM tires.

I just ordered a new set of HTR+ from them and they never said a word about load balancing problems. Mine have been mounted and used for about 2 mos now and they are great. I used to have HTRZs and the difference seems to be day and night comfortwise. These tires clearly offer a more comfortable ride and its handling abilities are great. Lately it has been raining a lot here in N Cali and the wet traction has been superb. If Tire Rack won't sell them to you, go and get them somewhere else. They are great tires. BTW, mine are 225/45/17.

I had the same thing happen when I ordered my Potenza's. I rep called to verify that I ordered the right tires b/c they were wider than the stock michelins. I told him that it wasn't I mistake, and then he put the order in. I believe that they are just tyring to ensure that the right tires are going to be sent out, and you don't have to return them.

trying to get a lil V-I
I just ordered a set of 215/50/17 Sumitomo HTR+ for my CL-S for my stock rims.
I got no phone calls, and received an email the same day saying they were shipped. I guess if you want to lie to them you can say you drive a CL-S. That's weird though, cause the weight difference isn't that great.
Anyway, if you can't get the 215/50 try getting a 235/45/17 they are the closests size to stock and have a weight rating of 93 or 94...which is plenty for our cars.
edit: opps, I forgot the TL-S has 6.5 inch wide wheels. The 235 barely fits on our 7 inch wheels. so scratched the 235 idea

I wonder if the difference in load cap between stock and the htr+ is going to cause problems????
