Type-S Wheels
Hi guys - new member, pick up my NBP Type-S this weekend.
I, personally, do not like Type-S "honeycomb" wheels. Just too dark for my taste. I am having the dealer swap out those for the standard TL wheels, which I think are much sharper. Anybody else do this? Am I downgrading my Type-S by doing this?

Welcome to the forum Jake1221....
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) you're only downgrading in size....but definitely not downgrading in looks. Are they giving you money for the trade of rims?

the design of the rim aids in cooling off the brake system. because brembos work better under hot conditions and the rim helping to cool it off properly i wouldnt do it and size stays the same 17x8 same offsets.

WOW dude, dont do that, atleast take the wheels home and trade with a fellow aziner... the last thing you want to do is let the dealer sell some take-offs as new to the next type s who comes in with a damaged rim

Yeh. don't ..... trade + cash would be your best option.
Oh. and wait til you see the brake dust in front of your non-s wheels, then you'll realized why they come in that color.

Thanks for the input. I was looking for the convenience of having the dealer swap out, so I can just pick it up "finished" this weekend. But after these posts, may reconsider.
Do the Brembo's create more brake dust?

i bought 2 more sets of regular rims as well as having stock rims on the car and after they went to hell i got a set of type s rims from acura for a great price. the type s rims are made with superior quality meta;l the holes for the lugs also have a crush washer type of thing in them so they hold on with no problems. Now I graduated to Ronjon legends that kinda match the type s color because of the brake dust level.

Brake Dust in full effect: "hey you got gun metal wheels"
Freshly Washed: "Oh you changed the wheels"

I agree they grow on you, but at the end of the day, they stock and there are better looking wheels out there.
IMHO, if you're gonna go with an Acura purchased OEM wheel, the Black Chrome 18" A-Spec is the way to go.

Don't "give" the dealership anything. When I bought my TL-S I didn't want the rims either. I got the dealership to sell me the A-spec wheels (at a price I found on Ebay) and mount the new wheels/tires before I picked up the car. Then I sold the wheels/tires in the black market. Or you could keep yours for a while if you want.

Well guys, this has become a moot point. Dealer called yesterday and said the standard TL wheels will not work on the Type-S. There is about a 1/4" difference, which doesn't allow for clearance on the Brembos. So, for the time being, my decision has been made for me. I'm confident, as many of you say, that the wheels will grow on me.

^ uuuuh your dealer is full of crap-o-la
The following ALL fit the type s
2004-2006 Base TL Wheels
2007-2008 Base TL Wheels
2007-2008 Type S Wheels <-duh
There is atleast 1 members rolling on the 2007-2008 Base TL wheels on a type s
and with the 2004-2006 TL Wheels, there are about I dunno a few thousand manual transmission guys rolling with it
If your dealer is that dumb, just roll out with the type s wheels on, upgrade when you get your paper up best of luck, cant wait to see the pics

Forgive my ignorance, but translation please?
Well, regardless of whether the dealer is right or wrong, I'll go with the Type-S wheels for now. If they don't grow on me, will go with something else (that hopefully fits the Brembos)

The dealer is wrong. I've got stock 07 TL wheels on my Type S without any clearance probs. (hated the honeycomb look)
It's true the Brembos put out a lot of dust. It only takes a few days of driving to and from work to coat the front wheels.
Of course, that's not a big deal for a car washing freak like me.
