Type S 18 inch wheels-stock suspension

What aftermarket wheels in 18 inch on stock suspension look best on a type s? Which options would give the least of the 4x4 look?

What looks best is going to be up to you. If you're looking to close that wheel gap, choose a tire that's about 26" instead of 25.5", which is the stock OD.

18 x 9.5 +40 w/255/40/18, no drop.

What would be some options? I cant seem to find any aftermarket wheels that clear brembos without having major poke on stock suspension giving it tge 4x4 look.

I'm not sure, I don't have Brembo's, but I'm certain your answer is in the wheel/tire/fitment thread at the top of this forum.

Tsw Nurburgrings 18x9 +32 and enkei raijin 18x8.5 +35 are the two wheels I narrowed my search to when I wanted a more conservative fitment (flush...my first set was more aggressive) and still cleared brembos. It's very very hard to find wheels that clear brembos and don't give too much poke or need camber. Took me a few months of research when I picked my two sets of aftermarket wheels. Good luck, have patience, and do lots of searching like mentioned above.

Thanks for the input fellas. If i get the tsw or enkei what tire size should I go with? 245 40? Can i go any wider and taller maybe a 45 series on stock type s suspension? Are tsw good quality wheels and do they hold up well on potholes?

17 inch options

I also would consider 17 inch options. Want to eliminate as much fender gap as possible.

the tsw wheels are very good quality, i currently have them.

you can probably go with a larger side profile or 245 and be fine

you won't be able to have a concave wheel without lowering (there will be major poke if you leave it at stock height). it's just the way it is with having brembos and not wanting to lower it.

If I went with either tsw nurburgring or enkei raijin would a 245 40 or a 255 40 tire option work at stock height and still be within the 3% recommended spec?

Sweet looking ride! What rims are those TSW? Would those rims work on the type s?

I currently have waffles on on 245 45 17s. Would going to a 18 inch rim with a 245 40 or 255 40 series tire make the fender gap more obvious compared to 17s with 245 45?

with tires, you want to have the same rolling diameter as STOCK.

so, there wouldnt be a perceived difference in gap, because rolling diameter will be the same or as close as possible.

Look at VE's car for reference. he changed both wheels and tires but kept the tire at the same rolling diameter and it looks PRETTY close to stock wheel gap

both of the proposed 18 inch tires are very close in diameter to your current 17 inch tire.

As Spaceman pointed out, you don't want to change the overall outer diameter of the tire, otherwise your speedometer will be reading wrong. If you want to close the fender gap, you have to lower your car. No two ways about it.

Thanks for the input guys. I spoke to a local wheels shop and they said they have STR 901 and STR 903 wheels for my car. Specs are 18x9 offset 20. Have any of you guys ever heard of STR racing wheels? Dont want to buy cheap wheels at the risk of wheel failure. The guy at the shop obviously says they are good wheels and that they hold up well. I looked em up a bit and they seem to be relatively light weight and are made using a technique called flow forging, whatever that may mean but I doubt they are true forged wheels. Thoughts? Pictures of said wheels 901 on top 903 bottom -

flow-forging is a mixture of cast and forging, it provides the benefit of forging and also keeps the cost down of true forged wheels.

but how its made is non-important as OEM wheels are casted and they are pretty stout.

those wheels that you've picked out are replica styled wheels, as in they were copied by STR to look like their authentic counter parts. nothing is wrong with this!
if you like them, grab a set!

Those will poke big time if you don't lower. They look nice though! What weight are they?

I'm lowered a little bit, but it does poke like 2 or 3mm.
a quick glance, it looks flush.

^^that setup looks great! i don't consider that poke really. OP is saying he wants to run wheels on a stock suspension. when i ran my xxrs 18x8.75 +20 on stock suspension for a few days it looked so so bad haha (mucho poke)

They are supposedly 17.5 lbs! The guy at the shop says there wouldn't be any poke that they'd be flush but yea we know thats impossible. Im more worried about the quality of the wheels in that they don't fail if pushed to the limit. I've heard stories of replica wheels just not holding up and failing catastrophically which obviously can be a dangerous situation. Plus I live in a city full of potholes. The guy is willing to sell me a set of these wheels for $650. Good looking wheels at 17.5 lbs for $650? Sounds too good to be true no?

Miro 112 actually, with a custom Hyper Silver finish by Detroit Wheel and Tire. I don't think they will work on a Type S, specs are 18 x 9.5 +40.

You would hella-poke without lowering. I poked 5mm in front and was flush in the rear with 18 x 9.5 +40, so you would poke 23mm in front, and 18mm in rear.

its been poking alittle bit more as i raise it, will get an alignment with natural camber soon

i was the same way with my xxrs...i was low and was always worried about hitting on dips and scraping and everything else until i finally got to a point where i was like i can't even enjoy the "speed" of my car and drive aggressive when i want.

so i ran it by my wife (of course played the "it will be more comfortable" card), and sold my xxrs and got a flush setup with my tsw, got 235 tires instead of 225, and raised my car up a little bit.

i drive so much more relaxed now and don't worry about hitting anything, meaning i can push the car whenever i want and not get a gut wrenching feeling while driving.

lowered cars look great, but took me a while to find the balance of looking great and functionality.

That's one of the reasons I didn't slam my car. The only time my car scrapes is when I come out of my own damn driveway, and just the plastic air-thingie in the front.

^im doing that next.

so, when I bought the wheels, they came with 245's, which give the tires a slight stretch. I'm like you and like my tires beefy!
in a few months, i'll grab a 265 set!
