TSW Nurburgring or another wheel setup ? Need wheel gurus input.

I need some help and opinions from the wheels guru here.

I was looking at the TSW Nurburgring 18" in matte gunmetal for my car which you can see here :

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-photograph-gallery-96/my-take-asm-2008-tl-s-spring-here-update-4-19-13-a-864573/

As much as I like the color and spoke design of that specific wheel :

http://www.tsw.com/alloy_wheels_nurburgring.php

I'm realising I do like a wheel with a lip and not necessarely a crazy 2.5" lip on it. I was wondering if you guys had an idea of a wheel model that would be similar to it and in the same kind of price range that would fit my Type S ?

If it gived you a better idea I'll be getting coilovers and have my roof painted gloss black this spring so I'd like a set of wheels that will help set the whole package apart.

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Brakoo, I've always liked the Nurburgrings. They remind me a lot of the OEM Type S wheels.

18's or 19's will do you good.

Hey Jon, did you have to run a spacer on those to clear the Brembo's?? Some of the TSW rims I looked at would no clear the brakes without spacers or running a crazy offset like +20. The TSW rep just said run 20's and they should clear. I ended my conversation there and went a different route.

I was looking at the TSW Cadwell.

Thanks - I really like the rims. I'm going to run black lugs this summer and am going to modify the center caps to be black and white.

@sauceja: I haven't had any fitment issues clearing the brembos and no rubbing on the fenders. I'm not sure how the other TSW's are for back spacing.

To anyone interested in matte finish rims, Adam's Quick Sealant does a great job at retaining the color of the rims and provides a nice satin slippery feel.

Really like those rims. Wife just bent my rims yet again. So bought the BE Breyton gts - av from tire rack for 200 each in 19's and love the new look. They ran out of gun metal so did hyper silver

I noticed you have 245 tires on. I bought 245 tires for the same rims as you but mine are rubbing against the rear strut. Did you use a custom offset on the rim or wheel spacer? Thank you for your time. Great looking car.

Thanks! Nope...nothing special was done at all. What tire are you using? The actual width seems to vary between models/brands. I got mine from Discounttiredirect.com: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=8&vid=012180

They're 18x8 +35

Hey thanks for your help Jon! I'm using the same size wheel as the factory including offset and width. The tire I'm using is a Continental Extreme Contact DWS 245/45WR17... The tire is 10mm wider than the 235/45WR17. I purchased 5mm wheel spacers in hopes of getting a little more clearance so they don't rub against my strut tower... Will 5mm be enough? I would like to go with 15/20 but won't those add too much mass weight to the wheel therefore decreasing performance and fuel economy further?

Some people will probably suggest removing one of the wheels and putting washers on over the studs to simulate a wheel spacer. Once you have cleared the strut, remove the stack of washers from the studs and measure the height - if the height of the washers is 5mm or less then you'll be fine with that. I would be careful to make sure you get enough turns on the lugs. Some have suggested that any size spacer with stock studs won't provide enough threads for the lugs to safely bolt down and recommend extended studs. Maybe others can comment on this? I would do as you suggested and go with 15/20 Akata spacers or spacers + extended studs. If you're going to go through the task of adding a spacer you might as well improve the appearance. I wouldn't think your fuel economy would suffer.

I'm on A-Spec suspension which is a bit lower than the stock Type-S suspension.

I'm trying to imagine what those exact 18" wheels would look like on a stock '04 suspension lol.

I'm thinking small and 4x4! lol ...I had them on the stock type s suspension for about 12 hours before I had my a-spec suspension on. It looked a bit weird ..I have a pic somewhere. The center caps were ugly as sin too (polished).

I would definitely lower the car some if you're putting aftermarket wheels on...

Agreed! Here's my car before I had the a-spec body kit and suspension on, the rear quarter windows tinted properly and the center caps were original. Pretty much 2 weeks after I got the car ...

I've been playing with the center caps a bit and decided to switch it up..threw black lugs in for fun. The black and white center cap should match the brembos. I figured this was appropriate here since we're talking about Nurburgring's. :-)

The Type S suspension is a bit lower than the base suspension from the factory. I would assume the wheel gap in the front would be a bit larger on the base suspension.

Hey! I just took off my winters this evening and put the Nurburgrings back on. I clear the Brembos and rear fenders jwith my setup but I would guess that you'd have to roll the rear fenders with the fitment you mentioned. I'm considering a 5mm spacer in the rear to try to get it closer to the fender but even that may rub when loaded down. I'll have to look into this. The suspension + rear swaybar + wheel/tire combo feels perfect! Smooth/firm/planted.

Yeah,

I am at stock height on mine right now. Tires are a little bit bigger. I am not on Aspec suspension though!. I think they would have no problem. I am going to test fit them on Saturday morning at my buddies shop. At your stock height did you have a problem? I am not sure if the 1in to become the 9 in wide is really going to make a huge difference. Then again I have no idea. Thanks Jon for the quick reply!

So you bought these at +40 and then used a 5mm spacer to get to +35...?

Not sure if you're asking me ...but if you are, I bought these at +35 all around. I have considered add a +5 mm spacer to the rear to bring it to +30. I have 245 tires as well.

Awesome pics. this is the first time I've seen pictures that "actually show" the clear diff between an A-Spec kit and stock Type-S! Maybe due to the way your silver paint shows the lines and metallic highlights. Great looking car. I'm gonna try and run my TSW Hockenheim R's 17x8 235/45/17, while I get the stock Type-S wheels re-furb'd. RWD minitruck offset but not radical, I'm hoping they clear caliper and don't poke out.. lol

i say you go xxr 530 +20 offset, i just got them put on with 225/40/18 tires and they look outright nasty. They are alot more concave than the TSW's but thats just my 2 cents

Hey guys, I just found a sick deal on Nurburgrings that are 18x8.5 +45. Does anyone run this setup or know if they will clear the BBK?

Hey there, resurrection time!

Felt like sharing...
I'm about to do the same setup (18x8 +35 ; 245/40/18 V12's; Square Setup), but I'm on a stock AT Type-S suspension.

I'll post pics with the stock AT Type-S suspension and then after with the drop. Probably will be up by the end of the month.

Hey all,

Here are the pics of the 18x8 +35 TSW Nurburgring setup with 245/40/18 Hankook V12's on a Type-S suspension. As you can see, I probably need a drop. Recommendations for coilovers?
