trying to get away with a different tire size

recently leased an 07 base model.
stock tires are 235/45/17 on the turanzas.... I miss my proxes I had on my maxima, so shopping around for them again. the price difference between 235/45/17 and 215/50/17 is about 100 bucks. the 215 series is a bit narrower, anyone have experience with that size? turanzas btw slip even in the lightest snow, I'm afraid for the upcoming season.

Height wise your fine but the 215 is going to be about an inch narrower which is actually better in snow but is going to be less traction on dry roads given the same tire .

you would probably open yourself to more road hazards because the tire will be streching slightly already, and a big pot hole could be enought to knock the air out of it.

I think you are confussed. The 50 sidewall is taller than stock which provides even more protection from road hazards. 215's are Skinnier and would not "Stretch" at all (in fact, the opposite would occur). As other said, the 215's would be better for snow but worse for regular driving.

I thought that the first number 215, is width of tire, then the second is how much % of the sidewall is of the width, and the third is the size of the rim it is being put on. So that would mean that the 215 tire is 2 cm smaller in width than the stock tire, making it stretch to fit onto the 8inch rim. ANd to back up what I think, here is the info from 1010tire calculator
