Tread wear
I have been alarmed at the tread life of TL OEM tires. From what I have read (and from a friend who has an '04 TL) the OEM tires need to be replaced between 11K-18K miles! Is this because of the quality of the tires, or is this typical for all low profile tires? I usually put 50K-60K on my Michelin Pilots on my '98 Accord. If I buy a TL, do I have to budget in to replace tires once a year (I put 25K/year on cars)?
This is troublesome to me. Opinions/experience?
Also, is this a similar situation on the TSX platform?
Thanks in advance!!

My TL is pretty new, so I can't speak from experience. But if (big if) your OEM tires are worn out prematurely, just buy tires with higher treadwear rating. 235/45/17 is a pretty popular size and there are a lot of better cheaper choices out there.
The Turanza has 260 treadwear rating and the Pilot MXM4 has 500. From the numbers, hypothetically, the Pilot will outlast the Turanza in 2 to 1 factor. Treadwear is a compromise of a lot of factors. Usually it's between grip and tire life. The softer the compound, the better it grips and the faster it wears out. And vice versa.
My guess, the Turanza will be worn out in about 30k miles, and the Pilot in about 50-60k miles.
