Tread Depth

What is the tread depth of the Bridgestones when they were new? With all the threads about tires wearing etc. I checked mine out. I have 9/32 on the rear and 7/32 on the front. Car has 10k miles so far. Do you know approx. what they are new?

What is considered a dangerous depth 5/32? I think my '02 TL has 6/32 on it.

Thanks.

The tread depth when new on the EL-42's is 10/32". I was going to give you a link to TireRack but it seems they have deleted the tread depth info for all of the EL-42's, for some reason. The only Bridgestone I have found with a different tread depth is the LS-Z, which is 12/32".

Sounds like you are getting great mileage on your tires. If you have never rotated them, you are about 3,000 miles past due. That will help even out the wear on the fronts and backs.

I think 3/32" is the acceptable minimum tread depth, but all current tires have tread wear bars between the grooves. When the tread is even with the tread wear indicator, that means it is time for new tires.
