TPMS on a 04 ASPEC Wheel

Trying to sell my ASPEC wheels off a 04 TL, and im wondering if a TPMS sensor off other TL's would work...not sure how all of the TPMS works since ive never had it on my car.

Main example: will a TPMS system off a 07 Type-S work on the 04 ASPECs?

Thanks for any info.

I thought if you got the sending unit, TMPS would work on pretty much any wheel. I know Kennedy had found some straps to hold the sending units to AM wheels.

So in you example, the '07 has the reciever, the computer, the output/display. If the wheels have the sending unit, you should be able to make a go of it - not sure if there is a recognition or calibration required.

Thumbs up

Yes, the TPMS will work on an '04 A-spec rim. My situation is similar...I have a set of 2005 A-spec rims on my 2007 Type S (the '05 and '04 A-specs are similar in that neither have the "cut-out" for the sensor). I mounted the sensors then had the tires mounted and balanced. Voila! The TPMS works like a charm. No problems whatsoever.

I give props to Kennedy because he had much experience with this issue and knew that it would work, and he guided me through the process. He was right on.

Looks liek you're square... Yep. mounted 2006 TPMS sensors to 2005 A-specs with no issue. You have to use a little more weight to balance is all.

You're all set.

I kinda wish I didn't have them, sure they are a nice thing to have. But they are a pain in the ass when I want to put my wheels on. I am the type of person that beep noise every time would bug the crap out of me lol. oh well gotta pay i guess to enjoy things sometimes.

yo Dee... you can mount them on the '04-'05 stock wheels with no issues... Acura just wanted to save money on balancing wheel weights... lol ... so they redesigned a whole wheel for the addition of TPMS sensors... just to save 5 cents on the balancing... talk about a waste of resources... hahahahaha...

You're straight. Bolt the sensors to the valve hole and install tire... That simple.

BTW, nice wheels there!

A neighbour recently got told by the local Acura dealer that the stock TL wheels we bought in 2004 for the winter could not accept sensors that are now "required" on his 2007 TL because the 2004 wheels were missing some kind of "flatten area" in the wheel valve area. Should I understand from the above that this was BS? (which would be nice as it would mean that those wheels can still be used on newer TLs) Has anyone installed the 2007 (or other year) sensors on older 2004-2005 wheels?

this may be a dumb question, but are the TPMS systems wireless? because i have removed my rims/tires and never noticed anything that would connect to the car. and if it is, how does the car know which tire is which?

The dealer is yanking your neighbors chain. It doesnt matter about the "flattened" area. Many aftermarket wheels dont have that, yet we still can mount TPMS to it. It will work.

Way it works, there is a central "brain" that puts the info into terms so the MID can display it. Then every wheel well has a Receiver unit that tells the brain what location the pressure displayed is coming from and receives information from transmitter which is located within the wheel itself. That is the unit that actually gets the pressure and transmits it (powered by a battery). My terminology MAY be incorrect but should help you understand
