Too low, too stiff and tires too big = want to go back to stock

I picked up a 05 6spd a couple weeks ago, and I'm pretty sure it's been lowered by the previous owner. Here;s couple pics of the car.

To me, the car is too low and too stiff for my daily commute on not so nice pavement.

What's worse is the previous owner put on 245/45/18 tires, which is 1.3 inches larger than stock all around. And when I take a right corner that slops up hill, it definitely rub.

I'm not sure what kind of suspension is on the car, I need time to take off the wheel and check. It may have a rear sway bar too, because the rear end definitely feels more stiff and does not roll when taking corners at high speeds.

I'm definitely thinking about going back to stock because I need a comfortable ride.

Maybe picasaweb doesn't allow linking?

Otherwise the pics are in this album

Yeah definitely looks dropped and looks like it was dropped on non ASPEC springs. Just double check to see if it was lowered on coilovers or any suspension that has dampening control, if so, you can adjust the ride softness a little and it might be to your liking. You can also try to raise it a bit, only if its a coilover suspension.

If its just springs, then yeah, you gotta revert back to OEM wich shouldnt cost you much, just get a used set on the forum for like 50 bux and swap it out. Remember with lowered vehicle you get much better handling so you will lose that.

I Just looked at that pic again and the rear wheels look like the camber is off a bit due to the aggressive drop.

Yeah the camber is definitely off in the rear, if the camber was correct, it would definitely rub more.

Hopefully I'll have time to take off the wheels and look at it this weekend. Hopefully the aftermarket suspension the previous owner used are good stuff and adjustable.

This is the first lowered car I've had. Is the ride quality suppose to be that much worse than stock?

I remember all I ever wanted in my Legend was to drop it, but that was my younger days. Now my older bones needs a cushier ride.

Ok took pictures of the springs and shocks. Looks like it's got stock shocks with aftermarket springs? I couldn't find any markings on the springs. The shocks says HONDA on it. Anyone know what kind of springs these are?

H&R sports and Neuspeed sport springs are red, but they don't drop the car that much.

Shocks are indeed stock. Here are the part numbers for the '05, 6MT rear shocks:

52610-SEP-A13 SHOCK ABSORBER ASSY., RR.

My H&R Sports are Dark Blue (TL-S) and so are mmade22's ('05 MT)

Doesn't Tokiko or Tanabe have an "OE" spring thats red/orange?

Maybe these: http://www.tanabe-usa.com/springs/sp...ions.asp?id=1# Tanabe DF210

Drop ~ 1.5" and the main page shows them as a similar color.

That sorta looks like how my car used to look

If its just the springs, theres a ton of people on here that have stock springs for sale in the Black Market.

thanks for digging that up. The drop on the TL on the website looks similar to mine. Except mine has bigger wheels and tires, so it fills out the wheel well more.

But my tires are too big, so it rubs, I'm sure a 245/40/18 will work just fine.

Hopefully when I take these out and replacement with stock ones, I'll see some kind of markings.

245/40/18 will work fine, the stock 18" tires are 235/40/18 so you can do that too. how many miles does the car have on it? i would think about replacing the entire shock units. if the original owner had been running that drop for a long time the stock shocks are probably near the end of their life. you can get stock shocks for cheap in the BM or buy a-spec which would be a huge improvement in handling if you don't want to be dropped anymore.

Can't see the pics, but from what I've read...

Swift has red springs, drops a little over an inch. Pick up a set of stock shocks/springs and put them on (can probably get a set cheap in the Black Market). Once you do, figure out which springs you have and sell them in the BM.

245/45/18? Those need to go immediately. With an 18" inch wheel, you should be running a 40 series tire, unless your wheel is extremely wide (x9, x9.5). I'm assuming it's not, so I'd go with 235's, but 245's are good, too.

The car has 30k miles on it. The dropped suspension probably has 10k on it since it was the 2nd (previous) owner before me that put them in.

The tires are almost new, so I'm planning to run them down before getting a different size.

Haha, well said Phee. That's definitely possible, although I don't see that as I'm getting older and older

Also my wife ride with me in the car a lot, and eventually we're going to have children. I want her to be comfortable and the kids too.

Like I said above, back in my bachelor days. All I ever wanted was to drop my Legend, but didn't have the money. Now I can afford it, and have it, I don't want it...oh well, can't win

Thanks for all the comments and help. I really appreciate it.

I have to say, I do like the way the drop looks on my car with this suspension setup. The handling is awesome too, it was really different than the 08 base TL loaner I drove last week (quite a bit of body roll and floaty)

I just bought stock suspensions, hopefully they'll be here in a week or so.

I would keep the drop. It looks damn good I would upgrade the shocks for better dampening. Those springs are to aggressive for stock shocks which would cause a bad ride
