TL on WedsSport TC-005

I got very lucky and was able to find a mint set of WedsSport tc005's. These wheels have been discontinued for a number of years. I have always admired how my type s wheels looked on my car, and love how the Weds have a similar look to them. The Weds were a nice upgrade over the type s wheels because they are forged, making them weigh only 17.5 lbs per wheel in an 18x8 which is about 10lbs lighter per corner less than 18x8 a-specs and 5 lbs lighter than the type s wheels. Also, the spokes are thinner on the Weds making the wheel more aggressive looking IMO. I just took these pictures this evening, enjoy

Wheel specs: 18x8 et42
Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 235/40/18
Suspension: A-spec

I agree. I think these wheels might have been the inspiration for the type s wheels. These Weds were discontinued in 2006, same year as my car

I weighed all the Weds with the tires mounted and they were 41lbs each. I also weighed the type s wheels and they were 47lbs on the same scale and only 30% tread. After installing the Weds the throttle response increased noticeably, even more than I thought it would be! The car just feels more agile and precise. The suspension can react faster with less weight on the wheels. Night and day difference.

sorry swoosh but your setup is NOT lightweight
but my new one is here's a look into my candyshop for you guys

from left to right: 17x8 type-s (24lbs), 18x9 F14 (23lbs), 17x9 RPF-1 (16.75lbs)
These wheels were weighed back to back using the same bathroom scale.

I weighed my type-s wheels + Pilot Sport A/S tires with a lot of tread left (percentages are arbitrary because it's just an estimate and different tires come with different tread depths)

from left to right with Pilot Sport A/S tires: type-s (49lbs), F14 (48lbs), RPF-1 (41.75lbs)
these numbers are an estimate for the F14 and RPF1 wheels because I don't actually have tires on those wheels yet.

Pilot Sport A/S tires are extremely heavy and have a tremendous amount of thread on them! With a lighter tire (continental DW or Pilot Super Sport) the setup would be even more amazing!

For wheels, every pound counts. And i'm not exaggerating lol

those Weds, on the other hand, are LIGHT!!!

That's great to hear! Makes me even more excited to mount my RPF1s up! Lightweight wheels work wonders

^^^ hahaha

yeah my rims weight 21 lbs....for 18x8.5....my tires are almost 30 lbs....hence 50-51 per corner....i will be putting my summer rims on in the next few days and will weight and let you know....

so you will be beating me by the RPF-01's hahaha not the other 2.....

but love all those rims get the Continental DW's or DWS's and you will be around 37 lbs per corner....

Nice collection, I love the RPF-01's! I think for my next set I'm going to try a 16 inch wheel to save even more weight. I've had my eye on some 16x8 SSR type C which weigh 12.1 lbs!

I just picked up some 17x8 BBS RC's. It was a little disappointing when I weighed them because according to the spreadsheet they should weigh 16.4, but the really weighed almost 19lbs

yeah that spreadsheet is old LOL....what i do is go the the manufacturers website and look for more info....

you can go with 16's and you can prolly save a lot of weight with rims and tires....you will be ~28-30lbs per corner.....i know TLDREAM ran 16" rims/tires and cleared the brakes....the clearance was very very very little....i think only credit card thick !!!

Wow I stand corrected on your wheels haha I wont be getting the DWs until these monstrous Pilot Sport A/S wear out though... and that won't be for a while! haha Good setup though!

and +1 for the spreadsheet. I don't use it anymore because it's pretty outdated and doesn't have a lot of the new wheels or old wheels with updated weights for the new manufacturing procedures they may use

I didn't know 16"s cleared the base brakes, good info swoosh! Make sure you test fit before you try to mount the 16"s up, stealth! Wouldn't want you to not be able to return the wheels if they didnt fit

And running 16" wheels would look kinda dorky but I bet it would FEEL AMAZING! Such a dramatic reduction in moment of inertia with a lightweight 16" wheel! Those things can easily go down to sub 14lbs and with the majority of the weight being closer to the hub center... wow! I'm sure your acceleration would be greatly improved! However, I'm worried about the tire sidewall height. Would the additional sidewall rubber deteriorate the handling of the car? Sidewall flex is good for straight line acceleration, but it's no bueno for cornering

I tried on my friend's stock 16 inch CR-Z wheels and they fit over the front calipers but it was a very tight fit. It all really depends on the offset. He also has a set of 16x7 inch gunmetal type c's which weigh 11 lbs per wheel. I will see if I can try them on. I am curious how the will look / feel...

^^^ hahaha nice !!!

yeah 16" DW's and DWS's weigh in at 17-19 lbs....and if the wheels weight around 10-11 lbs....you should be at 28 lbs per corner !!!

On an average people are right at 50 lbs per corner....so you would be:

22 lb per corner less OR you would have:
88 lbs static weight loss OR
352 lbs dynamic weight loss !!!

damn !!! now thats what am talking about !!! haha

EDIT: great idea by lumyeinjun to try the rims before mounting tires....make sure it fits....make sure there is not caliper contact and then get tires mounted....

^yup! Fitment over the calipers depends on width, offset AND spoke design (including the size of the area around the back of the wheel hub). We had a member on here who bought F14 wheels that were more aggressive than the oem size and offset, but they still wouldn't clear the brembos because the extra material around the wheel hub came in contact with the brembo caliper

I always assumed that as long as you are more aggressive than 17x8 +45 then you should be good, but apparently his 18x8.5 +36 couldn't clear the brembos even though the oem wheel did that sucks!

You'll have less issues with the base calipers, but better to be safe than sorry! Also, I wonder how a 7" wide wheel would feel on the TL let us know how it goes!

I added some Titanium lug nuts to the mix. They are much lighter weight than the steel ones and they are also seven sided which requires a special socket to remove them. Its nice that they all match now instead of seeing the different looking locking lug nut which was an eyesore. I love how they look with the Weds. The Titanium is a perfect color match to the center caps, I was very pleased to see that!
