TL Type S Brembo Brake Pads
Can anyone suggest a source for replacement pads for a 2007 S type? I want a factory replacement pad that won't cost an arm and a leg.

STOPTECH makes a pad that emits less dust and is similar in performance.

You can find Acura OE Pads, from a dealership, on ebay for ~$165 shipped. Just search the part number.

Sorry to dig up an old thread. What do you guys think about the EBC Redstuff? Do I have to "break it in"? My dealer said that everytime I replace my pads, I need to replace my rotors. What is he smoking?
I drive a 2007 Acura TL Type-S w/ 114k miles on it. Currently has the stock brembo pad/rotors.

Is it possible to replace a pad without touching the rotor?
Does it dust more than the OEM brembo pad? What do you recommend?
i HAD a 2003 TL type s, and trust me, I've warped 4 sets of those rotors. These are currently perfectly flat. Also the dealer said these are too thin stock to be able to be resurfaced.

If your rotors are too thin, buy new ones. Centric makes a high-carbon alloy rotor that's not too expensive. I just did Stoptech pads and Centric High Carbon Rotors for ~$170 at amazingsavingsautoparts.com (05 6MT). Parts arrived in only 1.5 days (phoenix to las vegas). After a hard break-in with new pads & rotors, the brakes feel better than ever. Not quite as "sensitive" to light pressure as Brembos pads. Stiffer pedal too. My old rotors were below min spec and one of my pads had only .2mm left on it.
FYI: Here is the proper method for hard break-in: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

Are there any pads you'd recommend? I was looking at this one, but could not find any information on it:

If you got Brembos then I would recommend Stoptech compound. They are made by Centric. Centric also has a bunch of other brake pad compounds in the xxx.10010 pad shape. Here are the best options IMO:
Stoptech is 309.10010 = Fade Resistance + High Friction
Posiquiet Extended Wear 106.10010 = Fade Resistance + Long Life
Posiquiet Ceramic 105.10010 = High Friction + Long Life
100 Series OEM 100.10010 = Exact same compound as OEM/Brembo for 1/3 the price
Here is a nice comparison of their various pad compounds. The OEM 100 series only comes in the Orange "low metallic" for the 100.10010 pad: http://www.centricparts.com/products/brake-friction

i have stoptech pads (309.10010) and centric slotted rotors. been on them about a month.
a little bit less dust.
subjective details:
less initial bite than the brembos
appears to me that they work best after repeated stops. i have a 45 mile commute and they seem to reach optimal performance half way thru my stop and go commute.
maybe its in my head. but for the price, i'm satisfied. we'll see how long they last.

^^ agreed. Same experience with my stop tech . I didn't have much time on the brembos though. One thing for sure is I get about 3more days of driving before the front wheels get embarrassing dirty while the brembos gave me about 3 days total and I was looking for a car wash.

some like it stock
i got the brembo slotted rotors after resurfacing the OEMs around 60k miles. they were ~$200 at tire rack but after pulling a few hard stops (one 120mph --> 60mph) they seem if anything better than the OEMs.

94eg,
Thank you for the generous and thorough answers!
I've been an Akebono fan for almost a decade now, and for some reason I feel weird deviating from that. On tirerack they say the Performance ASP1001 fits, but most sits say it is NOT a fit. Can you take a look into this and give an evaluation on the pad itself?

Hmm. You guys convinced me.
I think I'll go with the StopTechs! Only other choice would be the ceramic centric. I believe you said 309.10010 are for my fronts? Are my rears 309.05370 or 309.05360? On Tirerack it says one is for a drum parking brake, the other is for an integrated parking brake.

For the Akebono's the any pad labled 1001 should work. The number 1001 refers to the pad shape. that is why all the centric pads I mentioned contain the numbers 10010. The pad shape is the 1st 4 digits with an extra zero at the end.
309.10010 is the correct part for Stoptech pads in Brembo front calipers.
For your rear pads, the stoptech part number would 309.05360 (compound 309 w/ pad shape 536). These are the pads that go into the calipers. According to the Centric parts database, the xxx.05370 does not work on the TL. I would trust that 1st. The parking brake shoes are part 111.07820, but you really should NEVER have to replace those.
Here's a link to the Centric catalog: http://centric.cataloglookup.com/
PS: AmazingSavingsAutoParts.com should be a lot cheaper than tire rack. $53 front & $29 rear for stoptech pads. It's an easy site to use if you already know your part numbers.

For anyone wanting to replace with OEM Brembo pads, I just picked up a set of front pads from Tire Rack for $69.00 (free shipping), which I thought was a pretty good deal.

I replaced my rear brake rotors/pads with Centric Premium Brake Rotors (Centric 120.40061 Premium Brake Disc | Auto Parts Warehouse) and Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic Pads ( Centric 105.05360 Posi-Quiet Brake Pad Set - Ceramic, Direct Fit | Auto Parts Warehouse ) at around 68k miles last year. I'm at 80k miles now, and my car is beyond squeaking and starting to grind, so I figured the fronts were up. However my car is at the mechanic and he called and said that the rear rotors/pads are what are making the noise and they are completely shot.
Is this normal? I commute 30 miles total a day for work, and don't drive the car aggressively or anything. 12k miles seems horrible, especially for the rear wheels. Am I wrong here? The centric parts I got I thought had pretty solid reviews. I didn't want slotted because I don't need performance etc, and I heard those wear even quicker.
Thanks,
Dan

12k miles doesn't sound right. I wonder if something might be up with the rear calipers sticking. I have Centrics (Stoptech compound & Posi Quiet extended-wear compound) on many vehicles and nobody has ever complained. Used both Premium and High Carbon rotors without issue. The two Toyotas I did for friends in Reno about 4 years ago are still running strong. Same for my 6MT TL and modded Civic.
I have heard of fake Centric parts being sold, but who knows. Because of this I have only been purchasing from PartsBoss.com because they are shown as a vendor on CentricParts.com (great prices & free shipping over $75). Sorry man.

So far so good Justin. I've had the real-car bug for a long time now. Put a crap ton of work into the CRX, more hop-ups on the Civic (Quaife steering rack, Integra tilt column, subframe collars, JDM quad rear speakers, JDM Type-Rx pedals & now rear subframe brace w/ Type-R sway). I even had time to install the aluminum pedal covers my wife bought me 2 Octobers ago in the TL. lol
BTW: For $49 shipped these came out amazing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/04-05-06-07-08-ACURA-TL-Manual-MT-LHD-Aluminum-Circle-Pedal-Set-Footrest-pec1-/141413487030?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20ece691b6&vxp=mtr
TL Needs some new rear pads (going Stoptech to match the fronts) at which time I plan to install the stainless hoses she got me too.
I gotta kick this car habit somehow. Working at Church every Sunday is kinda helping.

I just recently had to get the front and rear pads replaced on my Type-S and ended up buying Brembo ceramic pads from Tire Rack. $69 for front and $48 for rear = $117 (free shipping). I found that to be pretty solid. I do find that they dust quite a bit, but they're pretty quiet and have great bite.

2007 TL Type-S
FWIW, I just replaced the rotors and pads on my 07 TL-S for $268 shipped through autoplicity.com (nobody else was even close in terms of price, and I got the parts two days later):
Front Rotors (Brembo): Centric 125-40062, $93.70 ($46.85 x 2)
Rear Rotors: Centric 125.40061, $71.66 ($35.83 x 2)
Front Pads (Brembo): Centric 309.10010, $29.66
Rear Pads: Centric 309.05360, $52.69
The pads are StopTech's, which I've been using for a few years now. A fraction of the cost of the Honda OEMs, nowhere near as dusty, and very good performance. This is my first time using Centric's rotors, but they've gotten high praise everywhere, and given the cost were worth a shot.
On a related note, death to all rotor retention screws.

As for pads, I use the Wagner Thermo Quiets, semi-metallic. More than adequate breaking power IMO without all the dust, and you'll save your bank account too as they're only $25 for the set from Rockauto, part# MX1049. But then again, I don't drive like I've got to prove something.
