so insurance actually pays for new rims and tires in these kinds of scenarios? I was always curious if they'd pay for new tires too?

Yeah, I think they kind of have to...

Geico has been great through this. I'm getting a free rental car through them and it's a 2015 Cadillac SRX-4 - pretty slick ride, I'm not complaining here

Sorry to see that OP

Regardless add wheel locks and also install a shock sensor

https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...-alarm-855658/

Thieves are going to take what they want if they really want it, but at least these will give you some peace of mind

So the body shop called me today. the new wheels they got delivered are much darker than my old ones...and they only ordered me three, so I'm paying for the 4th darker wheel out of pocket, at cost - $269 + tax.

no wonder the thieves steal these things! they're expensive as hell!

acura only makes the darker batch now. imo they look better than the silvery ones and 300 isn't really all that bad for OEM rim

OEM rims have never been inexpensive in my experience.

Yeah, I'm fine with it.

I'm kinda psyched to see how it looks with the darker rims now, actually.

I know the OEM rims are much more stable than aftermarket rims (in most cases) and potholes are a BIG issue out here in Chicago...

boy, if it's not something, it's something else! Amirite?

Not so bad though, like I said, the waffles pretty much fetch $1500 here. And yeah, but the problem is who are you going to sell 3 waffles for? Wouldn't it look like stolen merch to anyone?

If you use "i broke one" as an excuse, wouldn't someone ask to see the broken one? pictures or it?

Either way, good luck with everything.

Why wouldn't the body shop order 4? If you have body damage to your vehicle and insurance pays to repair it, it is supposed to put you in 'pre-accident/incident' form.

You paying for the single wheel is akin to having the body shop say, "well, we tried to match most of it, but if you want the whole car to look the same, you'll have to pay to have us paint 2/3 of the car since insurance only painted 1/3."

Make your insurance up the amount and have THEM pay for the wheel. I mean, your insurance is gonna go up anyways, might as well get that last 300 bucks before they jack your rate up WAY past that, lol.

100% agree. You should have been able to get the 4th rim covered since it doesn't match. You may have had to wait until the car was returned and pointed out the mis-match, but any good insurance company would have agreed and paid up.

When I was robbed our detective pulled fingerprints. You know know cause their job is to detect. If the thief is ever arrested in the future he'll be linked.

Sorry to see this happen to you. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I lived in Chicago and had to park my car out doors. No way! I would just drive a beater until the car can be parked in a garage.

to be honest, I've found tl waffles to be weaker than some aftermarket rims. I wouldnt really consider them very strong. I would say they're "okay". I feel like the base TL rims are stronger, since the spoke is much thicker. I know the waffles have a lot of spokes, but thicker spokes is always stronger than multiple thin spokes.

You mean brand new wheels and tires? Wheels alone are only 1000-1100 new at the dealer. Here it will be 1000-800.
