Tires. Worth changing?

I have the EL42's now and have 5000 miles on them. I will be going to school in MA in a few months and want to know if I should change them. I did experiance some sliding in the snow here in NY when it was winter. I also notice the control in the rain is not amazing. Are these tires worth keeping?

i haven't driven in the snow in my TL with the el42's, but a michigan member has said that the el42's handled quite well in the snow/winter weather.

i'd say stick with them until you drive it in the snow yourself. afterall, these are all seasons and should handle ok in the snow.

if you are going to MA, i suggest you invest on a set on winter tires/wheels. i had pretty good experience with the Falken ZIEX 512 M+S for an all season tire. but NJ gets much less snow than up in the New England area.

Changing out my EL42s to Pilot Sport A/S was the best money I spent since buying the car. I had about 13k on my stock tires, they were still in decent shape but I got sick of the flatspotting and vibrations.

I would keep the EL42s as long as you need to drive to a tire shop and get some good treads. They are not good in the rain, and downright poor in the snow. In the northeast (or anywhere that gets significant snow in the winter), I think dedicated winter snow tires is good advice. At the very least get a good All-Season tire like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

You will be amazed at how the tires transform the car when you get good ones.

I went to school in MA - some serious snow can drop up there - probably better change 'em.
