Tires gone at 20000 miles!

Well, I just had my '04 TL in for service Friday, and they are telling me these Bridgestone Potenza's need replacing. 20000 miles, been rotated twice. I couldn't believe it; service guy is telling me this is consistent with other drivers experience.

I had a Boxster, couldn't rotate tires, and still got 17000 miles out of them. I see that Kumho and Michelin have tires for this car; does anybody know anything about them? I like a smooth ride.

People have been experiencing high wear on their HPT tires. You are not alone. It is rated very low in terms of tread wear (140).

For a summer tire people on this forum seem to like:
-Michelin PS2's

All-Season:
-Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (I believe that's the name)
-Falken Ziex 512

If you look through the Tire, Wheels, Suspension sub-forum you should find more info. I'm currently using my EL-42's, and planning on getting dedicated summer rims & tires next spring (Yokohama AVS Sport or Toyo Proxes4). Good luck.

I was looking over the TireRack reviews and ratings last night and the Pirelli Nero M & S tire appears to be rated the best overall. I'm probably going with these. Where do you find the tread wear ratings? Didn't see it on TireRack, but it's probably there.

Your post seems odd. You say the service department tells you they need replacing. How do they look to you? How much tread do they have left? You can buy a tread depth guage at any auto parts store for a couple of bucks.

If you don't notice them being worn, I'd check them before just taking the dealers word for it.

The tread wear rating is 400. It is in Specs under the UTQG column heading here http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...omCompare1=yes

You can also buy a depth gage for one penny almost anywhere. Just stick the penny in the groove, and if you can't see Lincoln's head, then you need to replace the tire.

RonA:

If you can't see Lincoln's head or if you can see Lincoln's head you should change. I'm assuming if you can see Lincoln's head the tires are getting bald...right? Just want to make sure I'm not picturing this wrong...

140 treadwear = 20K miles is about right to me. How many miles do you think it should run?

17 and 18 inch tires will require much more frequent replacing. 20k is about right for a 17" tire. Lucky to get that for 18s.

we have had some customers come in with around 15000-17000 miles and they already need tires. they just dont last long.

My dealer just called to say my Yoko AVS 100s need replacing at 19k. Is this inline with others experiences? I was not happy with these tires. They got progressively louder and more coarse as they wore in.

My back two tires need replaced already and they only have 13,000 miles on them. The front ones aren't too bad, but will probably need replaced too pretty soon. I rotated them around 10K and checked the tire pressure. Cant figure out why this happened so fast beside the fact that (so Ive been told) the tires are no good. Even if they are the worst tires out there, its hard to believe they would only last 13K. I went to dealer, they said nothing is wrong with the car.....Anyway what do you all recommend for a new tire?

Thanks

Bald TL42's @ 13K!

I just got back from my Dealer, and my TL42's are bald and need replacing. I can't fathom a tire only lasting 13K miles. I just drive highway for the most part, and it seems to me that these tires should last 18-20K. I have the old PVC 42's, so shame on me for not pushing the issue 5K miles ago, and got the free replacements :-(

The dealer is telling me I'm an agressive driver, or I had heavy loads in my trunk....interesting how they reach for excuses to NOT give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm going to go to Bridgestone and see what they can do, but it's really Acura who speced the tires and Bridgestone built them, so Acura should be doing something.

Well, hopefully I can get some resoultion by becoming a squeaky wheel, but it does sour me on my dealer. I had read about the flat spotting and other problems with the tires, so when I bought the car, I tried to get them to change them, but they just said "If you have a problem, our service dept. will handle it". Well, my bad to beileve it. Also, when I returned the original survey back to Acura, I noted in the comments section that the tires were flat spotting in cold weather.

I hate to be an ass-h$le, but I guess in today's day and age, that's the only way to get service.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
