Tire width?

Sorry if this has been answered already, but there is so much stuff out there about tires it is a pain for me.

I was wondering what the recomended tire width for rims that are 8 1/2, 9, and 9 1/2 inches wide. I am going to get 19" rims and i can figure out the height of the tire. I would just like to know what the tire width would be. I.E. 235, 245. I do not need the ratio i would just like the width.

I read on the internet that the tire width isn't a direct representative of how wide the rim is. The tire width is the widest point of the tire when installed. If i am wrong about this, i am up for being corrected.

Thanks!!!

Depends on the company and how they measure width...some measure to the edge of the shoulder...some measureto the end of the tread. You may see variances of upto an inch for the same size between different manufacturers.

Also, some tires have a more square shoulder profile and others are more rounded. Typically the squarer (sp?) shoulder will measure wider.
