tire speed rating of H vs V

I just bought four tires from tirerack.com for my 2000 3.2TL and they are Yokohama Avid H4. The Costco tire service however refused to put those tires on my car when I brought them in claiming that it's unsafe and may void warranty since they are H rated but the higher OEM V rate.

I don't understand the logic here. Since I would never drive my car above 100 MPH, is this really matter for a H speed tire (rated at max.129 MPH) instead of V rated tire (max. 149 MPH) to be put on my car.

Thanks for your input

Costco's giving you a line of BS. I bet you they're reluctant to install your tires because you didn't buy them from them. Just check with another tire place or check with tirerack for a referral to get your tires installed. I've had good service from Big Ten tires, the manager was cool with me having a set of Goodyears delivered to his store to get installed on my car. Just make sure the place you go to doesn't sell the brand your bringing (Yokos), they may not want to install them when you could have bought them there.

TLMugen is exactly on the money- go back to the tirerack.com website and look up an installer that's local to your zip code. My
Goodyear installer was more than happy to install my new tires and didn't give me a line of BS about not buying from him. In addition, I also bought H rated tires (Turanza LS-H).
Good Luck

Costco has the responsibility to ensure the tires you are installing on your vehicle is spec'd per manufacturers guidelines. If you get into a accident because of a tire failure then they could be held liable. Sometimes it not always about making a buck. I always respect the straight line businessman. Rock on Costco!

Finally called my local Acura dealer to set the record straight. I was told the rating V and H did not translate very much difference in real road experience when you drive under 100 MPH. So I put on all 4 Yokohama AVID H tires now and it feels just as the same as if not better than my previous OEM Michelline tires.

One final note, it's offical now that riding a set of H rated tire won't void your warranty. That's the word from Acura.
