If you can do a 235/40/18, I would go that route. I am doin that if I get 18's. I had a friend who had a that size and it rode more smooth than a 225 in my opinion. I am not droppin my car, so I think 235's with a 45+ should work without rubbin

With a 40 profile tire i hope the rims u are getting are strong with enough spokes to give it good support.....you may want to buy an extra rim or two just in case you bend one....you can ask Mr Hyde about his experiences with this.

Have you bought them yet? If the potholes are really bad (I am in Southern Cali ...other problems but no potholes), a 17x7.5" wheel with 225/45/17's would offer you better protection.
Now, if you have the 18x7.5's, then 225/40/18's are your best bet.
I have 235/40/18's on an 18x8, +45 wheel and an Eibach drop. There is some moderate trimming of the plastic section of the fender lip involved. It is easy to accomplished with a dremel and utility knife. You will not rub with or without passengers.. You might need to do this with the 225's on a +45 wheel also.
