Tire size choices 225/50/17 245/45/17 ???
It is time to get some new tires. I am curious to know who has swapped to different size tires and how it affected the handling of the car. I will not be changing wheel sizes so I am not interested in info on 18-19 inch wheels as I will be using the standard 17".
When I bought my car it came with snow tires that are 225/45/17 they are shorter and narrower. They seem to make the car handle very well especially for snow tires. I got a deal on some 245-45-17 tires but they were H rated and seem to make the car handle horribly but I am guessing it is because of the H rating.
I am mostly considering the original 235-45-17 or 225/50/17 and 245/45/17 but looking for pros and cons of all sizes that will work and not throw off the spedometer too much. Would like anyones feedback that have tried different sizes.
Thanks

Stock is:
235/45-17
Alternate 17" sizes are:
245/45-17
255/40-17 - big, big thread on this size. Search "255/40" by innacurate.
I wouldn't even look at 225 except, maybe (big maybe), for a snow only tire.

Why would you not consider the 225/50/17? The g35s run a 225 and handle very well? Wouldn't the 8" rim spread the 225 out to make it handle pretty well? The 225 should decrease rolling resistance?
Just curious to know why you shot down the 225?

I prefer a wider footprint.
IMHO, the extra rubber on the ground is worth a weight or resistance penalty. At least up to the point that the tire still properly fits the car and rim.
