Question Tire Size for BBS RX 17x7.5 Wheels

I am considering to buy BBS wheels and Toyos T1-S tires this weekend. My TL has Comptech springs.

What is the best size for the BBS RX 17x7.5 wheels? According to Tire Rack it is 215-50-17. The web sites for Toyo and Potenzas tires recommend 225-45-17. Tire rack says that 225-45-17 is small.

I need your help. Which size would you choose? why?

Thank you for your prompt response.

you will need to know the stock tire size to determine your new tire size. i can only assume 215/50/17 is correct because that is the stock size for the cl and tl type s cars. 225/45/17 is a common size most people use to upgrade from their stock tires; but the problem is the recommended rim width for this tire width (7.5). and i think it is slightly smaller than stock...not significant enough though. other than what i mentioned is the tire load rating. you will need a tire that is about the same, or higher capacity, than that of stock. maybe this is why tirerack recommends not using 225/45. i think those sales people are not patient, nor tolerant, of most people that call because they assume you know nothing and/or don't bother to explain everything to you. it is also possible that some are dumb-dumbs that only regurgitate what they read...they have no real, or theoretical, knowledge to even consider the possibilities.

since you are getting rims 7.5" wide, i would say F them and get the 225s instead. it's wider for more grip, better fit for that rim width, cheaper than 215/50s since 215s are not common at all, and there are more brand choices in the 225/45 size. if load rating is a concern for you, look for a 225/45 tire with a tire load rating that is the same or higher than that of your stock tire.

good luck!

235/45-17 would be much closer to matching the overall stock height. I would've gone with this size but chickened out at the last minute and went with 215/50-17. No regrets but 235's sure look good!

Is there any issues that you know of with the 235's? Just wondering why you chose the 225's also.
