Tire size for 18" rims
Hey, I know this has been discussed before, so I apologize. But I was trying to decide what tire size to get with 18" rims. Seems like a lot of people get 225/40/18, some get 235/40/18, and I think others get 215/45/18 and 225/45/18. These seem all close to the stock tire diameter.
So how should I choose which tire size to get? What are the reasons you guys chose your sizes?
thanks,

You need to factor in overall diameter when choosing tires, which by your post looks like you've done. The other thing to look at is the width of your wheels. 225/40-18 can safely be mounted on a wheel with a minumum width of 7.5". Same can't be said for the 235's which require a minumum wheel width of 8". It all boils down to the width of your wheels.

I have 235's on my 18x7.5 because I think it looks like sh;t when the tire patch is less than the width of the wheel... A 225 would not have rounded up, it would of curved outward to the rim. Not safe, and looked trashy, to me. At least with Kuhmos (which I got). Some brand of tires might be different, but I like the 235's round inward, providing some protection for the rims so they won't get curbed, or when I take a hard corner they handle better.

Well, I'm probably gonna get 7.5" rims, so I should get AT LEAST 225's, and maybe even 235's according to SimTypeS.
SimTypeS, I'm assuming you got 235/40/18. Any problems with rubbing caused by the additional width of the tire? I'll be dropped on prokits, so I have some concern about this. Oh, and my rims will mostly likely be 7.5" thickiness with 45 offset.
thanks,

I have 18x7.5, with a +45 offest, running 235/40's, with H&R Sports. I did have to trim that plastic tab, but it takes 5 minutes, and doesn't do anything to the car, looks or functionality. So, no worries there. Even if you have a heavy system in your car, that plastic part should be the only part that rubs. Which wheels and tires are you looking at?

I think I'm leaning toward the Konig Verdicts... Just gotta figure out what size tire I want, I guess I'll ask the tire guys what they suggest as well...
