Tire selection

I am considering replacement tires and hopefully narrowed it down to 2. Nitto 555 and Yokohama S.4. The 555 are directional and my experiences with that type is very noisy, even rotating every 3 to 5 k and regular allignments.

Any suggestions?

I have the S.4 245/45-17, but I'd look at the W4s next time around, wider tread and much less expensive. Best buy on the market IMHO. Had Nitto's years ago and they became very noisy, never buy again.

I have the w4s in 235/45-17 which have an 8.7 inch wide tread width; that's over an inch wider than the stock tires that came with the car. Contrary to what you may read about this tire in the snow and ice, if you drive like a normal person and not a hot dog, this tire is fine in the winter. I live in Chicago and we've had alot of snow this year. I have gone up steep inclines covered in light snow with no problems, through snow over 8 inches deep(snow plowed embankments) and of course I got stopped but I still didn't get permanently stuck. So it took maybe 30 seconds to get out.
The tire has an aggressive, good looking tread pattern with big blocks and fills out the wheel well nicely, is very quiet at highway speeds, absorbs pothole contact, and handles well in the dry. Even though the Tire Rack surveys have other tires ahead of it in the rankings, Tire Rack itself has had this tire rated #1 a few times in their own testing. I run 35psi air in the front and 32psi in the back and find this to be perfect for my driving. I paid $113. per tire from Tire Rack a few months ago and they were at my doorstep in less than 24 hrs.
