Tire Replacement. Screwed Again

A couple months ago I got a screw in one of my tires. It was on the shoulder, so not repairable. At the time all 4 tires were pretty well worn, but still a little tread life left. Due to cost, I chose to replace 2 then and planned on doing the other 2 a month or so later. I got the OEM Michelin MXM4.

Well in the mean time, my daughter had the car in Atlanta and blew a tire (on I-75/85 in late morning rush no less). You guessed it, one of the new Michelin's.

She got it replaced with something cheap to get home and did not save the blown tire. (She's young and inexperienced and I give her credit for taking care of this in a strange town on her own. But, she should have called dad. )

So now I've got:

1 Nearly New MXM4
1 New NoName Replacement (Speed Rated "H", BTW)
2 Worn Yoko's

The original plan was to get to 4 of the MXM4's. But that was before I started reading here. NOW I'd prefer the 960AS Pole Position.

So, should I get 3 new Michelin's (I don't mind dumping the NoName) and suck it up till they wear out;

OR

Dump the Nearly New Michelin too and get 4 of the Pole Positions.

Whadda Ya think?

I'ts a no brainer, IMHO! I'd go with getting four new 960AS Pole Positions. You can get four new 960 AS tires for less than three new MXM4s. At Tirerack, 960's go for $167 each (4x167 = $668) and the MXM4s are $228 each (3x228 = $684). You'll not only save money but get a vastly superior tire in the 960s.

Your logic is immpecable.

As I was typing the post, I started thinking the same thing. I've been on Tire Rack looking at cost and you are exactly right. I can get the all 4 960's for a bit less than 3 of the Michelin's.

I'm actually considering going with a slightly larger width with the PP's, but it looks like it'll still work out so that any cost difference is small enought to live with.

THANKS!!!

I will be picking up some 960AS very soon.

Hope i don't regret it! MN winters suck but we'll see how they are in the worst of times during the winter.

Save the nearly new Michelin and No-Namer, sound like you'll probably be needing one sooner or later.

Yeah if I were you I wouldn't bother with tire rotations once you get the four 960AS, that way you will only be replacing the front tires as the rear tires rarely see any wear. The reason I think it's a good idea, is that you'll now save yourself from having to buy all four tires at once and instead just purchase two at a time.
