Better do some research and you had better decide what category tire you want, a UHP Summer tire or an A/S tire. The Bridgestone and Hankook are summer only tires and can't be driven in temps approaching freezing while the DWS is an A/S tire. Additional consideration is longevity, as the Bridgestone won't see much mileage before needing replacement; the Hankook should survive a slightly longer life, while the DWS will be on there for quite a while. Always check the UTOQ before making a determination. Although not an industry standard, it will lead one in the right direction when making a tire purchase.
Size wise, I would go with a 245/45-17 and as you may be considering a A/S tire in the $200 range, I'd look at the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus and not to start another debate, the DWS is not a UHP tire to some. If you want a summer only tire, great performance, short life, there are many tires to choose from so do your research and you'll be good to go.

Hankooks are decent. Despite Car/Driver's review, other reviews just reveal it to be an OK tire. I have them on my rears and have no complaints. Remaining tread life as expected after 10k is still good. Visually they look nice (but I know looks play little part in performance nowadays. Asymmetric tread patterns seem to be "in" at the moment and sometimes outperform directional tires). Just waiting till my front Falken 912s run down for a replacement on all 4.
Thinking about the Yoko Envigor for the high UTQG for DDing.
I'd only go for the Hankooks if money is an issue.

rather than have the continetal DWS, the DW are a better option compared to the above. I'll tell you this, they will blow the hankooks out of the water and be fighting well against the bridgestones!

Conti's all the way. There's a reason these tires have become so popular and are often on backorder. Simply put--they're great tires! I have the DWS on my car right now and I love them. DWS, DW, either one, u can't go wrong. I'm very picky about tires, and was actually in the business for 3 years, and these are just awesome tires.

In the summer category, the DW can't even compete with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

i'll agree the michelin pilot s/s are some badass tires but i didnt really relate them to the tires listed above cause i thought they were so much more money--in a diff category if u will. what's the price diff between the two for any given size? i put michelin pilot s/s up there with pirelli p-zero rosso's...which i think are some of the best performance tires hands down. also note, the michelin pilot s/s are not to be confused with michelin pilot sport a/s (those tires--the a/s--are far inferior to the s/s version).

I'm glad I happened on this discussion, because I'm looking for tires for my new purchase also.
I will throw out 2 more suggestions for comment, Falken FK452 and Kumho SPT.

^^falken 452's are total crap!! (imo). i had them on my car and they lasted 15k miles until they were pretty tore up and i couldn't take them anymore. i went to conti dws's afterward and they are 100x better. falken 452's, & kumho spt's are very entry level tires. dont make the same mistake i did and spend a little extra and get something that's worth the money you put into them. i know a lot of people have 452's on their car on this site, or at least they did, but its not wonder y u don't see them anymore. it's cause they're total crap...STAY AWAY!

Turbonut really knows his stuff when it comes to tires!
I have the DWS tires and like them. Bread, since you're from the "great white north", these are worth considering.

Glad I ran into this thread, I just ended up buying 4 x 235/45ZR -17 Continental ExtremeContact DWS yesterday and can breathe easy. I'm not much of a track enthusiast, the occasional revv off a red light but I mainly needed a good all season tire that would perform well in the snow. My last set (Falkens I believe) even though were M+S rated, resulted in me having 2 wrecks during the last Winter.
Anyone with hands on snow experience with the DWS?

This thread is very helpful to me. Based on everything I've read on here, Conti DWS seems like a good choice for me since I want a tire that is good in the snow, but I don't want dedicated winter tires. (The roads are often dry in the winter and I just need tires that will get me through snow the 10 days a year when there is actually snow on the road surface.) I'm a little concerned about the description of the DWS as "not the greatest when cornering", but then again, I think the fact that they are "soft" might be good for me. You see, I recently swapped out my suspension with A-Spec and now feel the suspension is too harsh over small bumps and road imperfections. Would it make sense to get DWS to soften the harsh ride? Will my handling suffer much? (I love the handling improvement with the A-Spec.)
